Ok so this may be all conspiracy theory but: AVB has only been in the job for 5 mins. Sacking him now would just be bad press. However, he does seem to need some asistance - even with only the blood-letting that has to be done in the Summer. Hence bring Rafa in as a consultant (Dir. of Football if you like) who can assit with the long term planning, stand as a barrier between the manager and those players who have an 'alternative view', let AVB get on with coaching/team selection. Stranger things have happened at sea! One thing I do know is that if Rafa took any position at Chelsea he would do the job professionally.
