Nevermind what West Ham and their thick as mince owners overpaid (as they do for all players) a season ago, based on what you've seen are you telling this lad is a 10m striker? Just can't see it myself. I think he'll do ok as a back up striker. I don't think Ruiz is a world beater either, but based on what I've seen of the two, Ruiz is a much better footballer than Ba. I also think he'll get more goals. We paid 10m for Martins. I didn't think he was all that but I rate him much higher than Ba. Maybe I@ve missed something with him. He was pretty average at West Ham despite a fine goal record and he has been nothing short of Shola-esque for us so far.

I agree we could have had more, but I also don't think its worth throwing more money at the likes of Maiga, Roux, Ruiz etc to get their clubs to sell, just so we can go 'Yay, £10m, he can be number 9'. I honestly have enough faith in Ba and Best to do a job in this league, and if we're going to play one striker bringing in an 'alright' player like those above doesn't particularly improve the team, it just provides the 'he cost a fortune, we have to play him' dilemma that Chelsea have (albeit I'd probably have Torres).

I'm not going to sway people I know, but I for one am looking forward to the season ahead with more optimism than I've had for a few years.

 

What's a 10m striker these days though? What did Crouch and Jerome, or Yakubu go for? I've not seen much of Ba, and even less of Ruiz, but I do have enough faith in our scouting setup to give him the benefit of the doubt rather than replacing him three games in.

 

How many goals did Jerome score last year, can't believe the Stoke fans were excited at the prospect of signing him.
