But then you are punishing teams that win consistently 1-0 or 2-0 compared to teams that might get a couple of 6-0 or 7-0 wins against relegationed teams. Pro's and con's to both systems I think.
But ultimately both teams have earn't the same amount of points so they must have both got wins and draws from the season. How can a system that's comes into effect after adding up the points effect a side for consistently winning 1-0 or 2-0...? Football is supposed to be entertaining and therefore scoring goals should be encouraged IMO. Isn't this the same reason that the two points for a win was changed to three? To encourage teams to go for a win rather than accepting a draw in tougher games...???
Because what goal difference does is say that a team that wins 6-1 4-2 and 4-2 is more deserving of winning something than a team that wins 2-0 1-0 and 1-0 just because they scored more goals. It's just a good achievement to keep clean sheets than it is to score lots of goals. Where as if you beat your nearest rivals surely that shos you are the better team and more deserving? I agre football is entertaining and yes, normally goals mean entertainment but surely defending should also be rewarded?
In a league set-up of 38 games it seems fairer to go on goal diff. because that is taken over all 38 games rather than head to head which would usually involve a couple of fixtures. All the top sides in a league have the chance to put 4 or 5 past lesser teams home and away. I agree 3 points for a win was one of the better rule changes we have seen.
I not saying the H2H is fairer or not, I am saying that using goal difference makes for a more exciting league / competition Plus, what if one of those teams as a period of bad injuries and loses to their opponents during that time???
i think it encourages positive play against a good team as oppose to hoping to put 6 past the whipping boys...as this is not reflecting as positively as the fact that you get rewarded for going toe to toe with a good team and not cowering out. think its a great idea and in the long run..it will develop your team to play against the big boys..thus improving your standards and that of your league.
