We saw this film last night. Highly recommended. Deeply moving story of an army veteran who seeks to make his life with his daughter off the grid. In the footsteps of Waldo Emerson. The film is much better than the trailer which has a lot of musical accompaniment...unlike life in the woods. Unlike any film from the US i have seen in quite a while.

    We’ve just watched this:
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296314/

I remembered it from when I was a kid. Francis Durbridge classic. Dated a little, in generally charming way, but still good cliffhangers and a well-woven whodunnit story.

I know this may be lowering the tone of this thread a touch, but a week ago I saw Mamma Mia! Here I go again. Definitely not in the same class as some of the films mentioned, but definitely what was needed after a tough week at work.

Was that the sequel? Was it comparable with the first film which was excellent?

It is more like the follow-on rather than a direct sequel as it looks at now (5 years after the 1st film) and also shows Donna meeting the 3 guys in 1979. I think that the film suffers from how little Meryl Streep is in it, so it certainly isn't as good as the first film.

Meryl Streep is also by far and away the best singer of the lot, Cher excepted. Those two first appeared together in the excellent Silkwood.

    On our list, definitely. <ok>

Just started second season of Stranger Things. Loved Season 1, but almost need a rewatch before this new season as I felt I was permanently playing catch-up trying to remember who was who, and what had happened to each character. Beautifully made.

I agree, not a patch on original MM, in fact I did not know what was going on really as all the lead actresses looked the same. Mme S explained to the idiot (her words) afterwards but I am still not sure who was who. Just another musical really, a genre I do not really like anyway.

    We are watching:

The Handmaids Tail - its a bit slow, I wish the revolution would happen with all the women rising up but I guess we will have to wait until series 3. Ms Moss is excellent. I like things that bish religion.
    Unforgotten - Excellent
Keep the Faith - something a bit different from the crime that floods TV, Eve Miles is great and DI bitch badly in need of emergency haircut.
Outlander is a great romp on terrestial tv, if you have not watched it on Prime.
