It really is worth sticking with, Scullion. <ok>

Just got all of the Man from UNCLE. Loved it as a kid. Watched first episode last night and it didn’t disappoint. Then read up on the episode. It was interesting that one of the leads (of the episode) was affected deeply by McCarthyism and Ian Fleming’s involvement in the programme (didn’t know that).

Fringe is another good box set. Sci fi mystery set in near future in our world with travel to a parallel universe with the actors playing twin roles. Very clever and highly original. Great plot twists although they did make a monumental muck up between S4-S5 where one of the characters was definitely deader than dead and inexplicably alive for the next series. Ignore that and it's fantastic.

Just remembered another excellent film we saw: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Raised a lot of issues, some worrying but at times it was really funny and the acting excellent.

On tv we have just finished Before we Die or Innan vi dör a Swedish thriller, worth a watch.

I just noticed the film Bridesmaids is on Ch 5 tonight.

I accompanied Mrs S to the cinema to see this with some trepidation being a girly film. I was one of 5 liberated men in a packed house (approx 100) of cackling women, what a racket was going on before the film started, yak yak yak, why can't they just firegaze like men!

Well although being a bit close to the bone and crude with girly "too much information" I have to say it was hilarious to the extent I had tears running down my face. Try it.

Watched the latest ‘Star Wars’ film yesterday - ‘The Last Jedi’. Adam Driver, the lad who plays Kylo Ren, is one hell of an actor and has built a fascinating character. I glanced at a few reviews afterwards and I agree with the 4/5 star rating they all seemed to give. There are a few glib lines here and there, but the originals had that too. Question is, how longer can I avoid Seb’s requests to watch the trashy 1990s ones Lucas made?

Watched ‘The Lavender Hill Mob’ with Seb. He absolutely loved it. We’re watching ‘The Titfield Thunderbolt’ later at my Mum and Dad’s with my sister (who’s coming over from Croxley). I’ve promised Seb we’ll watch ‘The Man in the White Suit’ together asap. I love Ealing films (not just the comedies).
Seb couldn’t believe that Henry Holland was none other than Obi Wan Kenobi. <yikes>

We have just bought a Netflix sub and I have started to watch Star Trek Discovery which I think pre-dates Captain Kirk but the technology has moved on a bit so some continuity issues here and I can't quite get my head around the female vulcan called Michael. Jury still out but anything Star Trek is good for me - I prefer it to cowboys and indians in space - oh sorry Star Wars.

We also want to watch the second series of The Windsors, we enjoyed the first series.

Compared to Sky, Netflix is a bargain.

I’d forgotten about this one. Was in my ‘list’ (the one that is purely in my head till I get to write it down, which I forget to do, then forget it was in my list, but I would’ve lost the piece of paper it was written on anyway). Just typed it onto my digital list on my iPad (to which I do attend), which is better, however autocorrect was determined to change the second word to “Francisco” (why? <doh>). Thanks for the reminder. ;) <ok>

When Mrs Andy was in hospital a couple of years ago, very poorly, I sat the boys down to watch ‘The Ladykillers’ (original, of course - what was Tom Hanks thinking? <doh> More power than sense). They absolutely loved it. They are broad-minded with cinema, which is very pleasing, many kids these days won’t touch black and white for instance. One of Seb’s big favourites is ‘King Kong’ (again, original), which is still stunning some 85 years later.

‘Kind Hearts’ does beckon, though. <ok>

As does ‘The Maggie’ and ‘Whisky Galore’. I bet there’s more.

Do like Star Trek, but haven’t wandered out of the originals for a while - still working my way systematically through those. Often very clever.
