ivor.... pub teams select a penalty taker......michu could have taken it but he knows what has been decided before hand and he politely reminded dyer of it...He calmed down after as he knew he was wrong...Of course someone would have been chosen, it would be silly not to..
I thought the spat with Dyer and De Guzman was quite funny, and I don't feel it detracted from the occasion, matter of fact I'd go as far as to say the sending off of the Bradford keeper, was far more disappointing, I really felt for Duke and the Bradford team, these Ref's need to engage the bloody brain at these big occasions. As for Dyer, I think he should have been given the Penalty, and what you have to remember is this, Dyer would have become the first player ever to score a hat-trick in a League Cup final!! So you can't blame him for being over enthusiastic at that point, anyway it's now the rich tapestry of the occasion. Master I'm not sure what your thinking with regard to 'going for the throat' after their keeper was sent off? Surely you can't be wanting to pile on more than the 5 goals we had? I think you'll find it was out of 'Respect' for Bradford, check Ivor's thread 'Sporting Michu' and his opening paragraph!...............
in a way i agree with Phil, 3-0 down, peno awarded, yeh red card offence but under the circumstances a yellow would have sufficed
it's a no win situation for the referee though isn't it Musty? He's obviously rated on his performance and he can't let sentiment or the scoreline affect his decision. If anything, it's the law we should be criticising rather than the ref. Along with most people I was dissapointed when the Bradford keeper received his marching orders, but I feel the ref's hands were tied.
Mr Laudrup's comments regarding being his fault there wasn't a designated the penalty taker was his way of deflected the attention from the players, it's called man management ,something he's extremely good at .The reason that Dyer went off was it was Mr Laudrup's reminder of telling everyone it's a team effort .
Thats the point though Dai ML doesnt have the players practicing penalties on the training pitch a point which was discussed on here prior to the Chelsea game I believe. Which is consistent along with not being awarded a penalty all season and our top goal scorer not being the one to take it I would tend to believe that ML was saying like it is. Oh and by the way Di I am fully aware of how professional my club is mate.
I don't think anyone wanted Duke sent off on Sunday including the Ref but he had no option as the rules go and its not a rule I am particularly happy with. Re the ML statement on the penalty none of us will know if we had elected anyone to take a penalty but you have to admit that ML is extremely good at taking the blame and immediately diffusing the situation - Arsen Wenger take note!
Of course they practice penalties in training...what do you think Swansea are a bunch of amateurs or what. Dont believe for one minute that penalties was not discussed especially as Bradford had got through two rounds with them...He is a bit of a boy is mike he wont show his card to anyone and that's why he is a winner...
Laudrup stated. "No we may kick some penalties but I may be wrong but I have an opinion about training penalties. "I think there's so much mentally, psychologically, involved in a penalty, in penalty shootouts in a final, its something you can't really train." That doesnt sound like a bluff to me just an honest opinion and has absolutely nothing psychological to gain coming out with a comment like that. Its not like Bradford all of a sudden are going to be more confident taking them because of this. This opinion by the way is shared by a many other top club and national coaches including Mourinho up until this year that is lol. Nothing to do with being amateurs or professionals just different training methods and priorities.
