The title of this thread is "You couldn't make it up" so using the theme but taking it in another direction......

Called at my local cobblers today to get some shoes re-soled. As well as shoe repairs he does keys and house security items, a franchise in dry cleaning and a nice little sideline in t-shirt printing - great for hen/stag nights and anything else. In his window he had an example t-shirt with words along the lines of "Obey our laws or get out of our country". Not unreasonable I don't think.

He had just been visited by not one, nor two but three police officers asking him to remove the t-shirt as a member of the public was offended by the words and told the police it could encite racial violence. Good use of police time or what? The words were general and could be applied to anyone "not of these shores", American, Australian, German, French or any other nationality.

No prizes for guessing the origins of the person who complained but surely "if the cap fits wear it", particularly after last week's events at Woolwich.

Needless to say the t-shirt was removed to save causing offence and just as I was leaving a reporter from the Argus turned up for an article and some pictures. A good promotional opportunity?

You couldn't make it up, could you?
