This thread was not started as a WUM, i think part of the problem is that PJ still has the cloud of the horridly terrible run earlier in the season hanging over him so as soon as we make a mistake it seems like we are back in the ****.

I am not sure Tractorbhoy were you get your idea that we have been a mid-table team all season & that we have not had that many highs & lows.
Back in October if we had beaten Palace we could have gone 2nd….the start of our dreadful run that saw us plummet to 4th bottom, a position (or there a bouts) we occupied for a couple of months.
Not until the defeat of Wet Sham at the end of January did we put our winning run together to pull away from the drop zone.
We have only reached mid table obscurity at the beginning of March..!

I think jonnys right, although the good run of results was was encouraging we never were serious play off contenders, losing 7 matches in a row and throwing away 24 points whilst in a winning position made sure of this, just imagine where we would be if we had gained just 12 of those points.
The problem is no secret, apart from LB where Cresswell has played his heart out every match we need decent central defenders, a right full back and a goalkeeper otherwise nothing will change no matter what season it is.
Im not whingeing or whining I support our club through thick and thin and have done for many years, it just infuriates me when PJ fails to see the bloody obvious and so does nothing to rectify the problems and seems to stumble across good things by accident, ie the Hyam, Drury combination and bears grudges so players like Carson hardly ever play.
Ill be at PR tomorrow and Saturday and Derby the following week but until the basic problems are addressed to start talk of play offs is hopelessly misguided.

Good point Fieldmarshall about Jewell holding petty grudges!

Lee Martin gets harshly sent off at Peterborough and he's banished to train with the youth team and not seen again for ages! Leadtwats get 2 silly yellow cards for petulance and is guarenteed a start straight after his ban! <doh>

Tractorbhoy I thought you were Spanish for a minute there. Not like you to lose your cool!! But for once I do disagree with you, we have had massive performance swings this season we've generally either been brilliant or rubbish, unfortunately on our rubbish days the defence just has no hope!! But i agree people's opinions appear to be based on maximum the past 2 games, they can't see the bigger picture!! For years when I've watched Ipswich, some games we have played really really well and lost and the amount of rubbish I've heard from fans... we were sh*t, I do wonder what games some people are at sometimes!!

I don't understand how some people think we can go from 2 seasons of finishing at the lower end of the division having to try to get in a new team over a short space of time and suddenly meant to be promotion contenders or this season be 1 point off the relegation zone, 7 straight losses and then complain after 2 defeats in 11!! We can't suddenly go from being sh*t to being promotion challengers!! I still think next season will be too early for us to challenge!!

I for one after our last manager do not think PJ holds grudges. Otherwise one mistake and Martin would have been out of the team but he was punished and worked his way back into the team and looks all the better for it. Similar with Chopra, smith and drury and hopefully bulland in the future. I think so far he on the whole makes players earn their place in the team!! Yes there is the odd exception but no manager doesn't have their favourites, yes its frustrating when we see a manager not playing our favourite players but I cannot remember and Ipswich manager who has done this!!
