Well my only experience of Fred Trueman was 1960ish. My cousin was a cricket fanatic of 10 years of age. Turned out to be a very good cricketer himself who had trials with Yorkshire before illness put the kibosh on it. Ran his village team from age of about 14 until his relatively early death.
Anyway his hero was Fred Trueman. He was staying with us and asked me to go to a Yorkshire game at Scarborough, might have been the cricket festival. As they came off the field in the afternoon he went up to Trueman hoping for an autograph. Trueman kept striding on as he told him not to hold him up on his way for a pint and to **** off out of the way.
