When have I ever been doom and gloom. Just because I want players to come here to play for the shirt that means I think the end is near? We need to establish ourselves before we take the world on. Make sure you build a solid base and learn to walk before you run With a few signings if they are the right players I think we will have a very good season. If we do a Hull and chase high risk big money signings like Hatem Ben Arfa, Abel Hernandez and Gaston Ramirez you can go backwards
What is your problem with aiming high and going for a really highly rated current international like Aranguez? Are we putting all of our eggs in one basket signing him - no we are not because as you mentioned, we still have the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Andy King as we are not buying to sell. Those players are still here, we are getting competition for them that might make them better, or if not we have better. One thing we all agree with is that we need a new DM - do you want us to trawl through the French second league for the like we did with Mahrez - we are in the Premier League, not the Championship so need to pay more to get the better players. We spent over half the season at the bottom of the Premier League - I dunno about you but I don't want that to happen again.
Because I don't want us to offer someone nearly £11M and wages over £60K a week to a player who clearly doesnt want to come means I want us to buy like were in the championship
Yes there's aiming higher and aiming too high NEWSFLASH- We have. N'Golo Kante Reality check needed by a lot of people.
This is not what I'm saying at all And it's not about "moving on" Nigel who? Two teams went up in the same season, one team has established themselves in the Premier League, the other was relegated for the second time last season... Yet we seem to be following the model of the latter! [I'm referring to Swansea and QPR by the way] We're trying to skip a step. Of course I want us to sign the best players in the World. But when you have to offer 4 times what they're being offered elsewhere, something seems wrong. We can still improve this team without going for international standard players, you know? Back to Swansea, they wasted their money on some guy called Michu that nobody had heard of, and some other unknown called Bony... What were they thinking!?
You would be more comfortable only signing conference players wouldn't you - I want the best and have thick enough skin to take rejections on the chin. I am a Leicester fan and want us to do well which means getting better then we were last season.
Mate, honestly, you are blowing this way out of proportion. Why are you exaggerating the point that me and Proud are trying to make?
What are you going on about? Signing conference players? Where exactly do you think we should be in the league table? Competing for Champions League? Neck and neck with Spurs and Everton? We are one of about 12 teams who can get relegated next season. If you think anything different to that take a reality check. Even Claudio said the aim is to get 1 more point then last season
We had Esteban Cambiasso playing for us last season, have a internationally renowned manager in Claudio Ranieri and play in one of the best leagues in the world. We aimed at the right level imo - that he decided otherwise is fair enough as unlike other people, I don't think that footballers have no choice in where they sign.
Neither NP or CR negotiate transfer fees or wage contracts. That is the job of the DOF, based on a budget and direction from the board. When Ranieri was appointed, Frank Sinclair actually commented that CR did not choose players to bring in, but gave the recruitment team a list of positions that needed strengthening. It was then down to the scouting team (for us Steve Walsh) to find the appropriate players, and then the DOF to entice them here through transfer fee and wage (John Rudkin for us). I suspect that CR may have been told a higher budget than NP was (if it was ever discussed). If these players do not bring their game to the table, then blame Steve Walsh for finding them and Rudkin for paying them too much. Ranieri is a coach, not a negotiator. Steve Walsh I trust, Rudkin - not convinced yet.
You get let Cambiasso cloud your judgement. We performed a miracle in getting him but don't start thinking we will get someone like him any time soon. The bloke has won more trophies then Lionel Messi for crying out loud. To pitch Cambiasso as the level we need to be aiming for quite frankly is delusional. You keep on saying that you want us to sign the likes of Vardy who we signed from the conference and Mahrez who we signed from the French second league - that we wanted a player from the Brazilian first league seem too high a reach for you. As I stated before, I want us not to be bottom of the league like we were half of last season - if we can get higher, by signing better players then I am all for that. We have just signed a current Japanese international and have some current internationals in our squad so I am of the opinion that we should be after international level players - you don't seem to be for some reason.
Am I bothered that we're hoping to throw a bit of money about? No. As much as I like to tease the Hull fans about it...it's a harsh reality. We need quality players in quickly so we're going to have to pay. Am I bothered that all four of the players we've had bids accepted for (Kante, Aranguiz, Benalouane and Inler) have all shown reluctance to sign? Absolutely. We're getting something drastically wrong and we need to sort it out. We're 5 and a half days til the season starts and we're still missing the right back, 2 central midfielders and centre back that we've needed since the beginning of the window.
That you aren't even willing to try is the difference between us - we have nothing to lose in attempting to get these players apart from them saying no but for some reason that is too high a price for you. As for the Sven comparison, if only we had some kind of recruitment committee to sign players...
For what it's worth. Aranguiz would be a stupidly good signing. He's in his prime and has been outshining the likes of Arturo Vidal in recent major tournaments for Chile.
Your negativity got to me - you are condemning people before they actually have done anything. If this guy performs **** when he plays for us, fair enough - until then, hooray, we have signed someone that seems half decent!
When have I said we should be signing the likes of Vardy? Mahrez cost £400K so if he fell on his arse and failed it wouldnt have mattered. Mahrez was even pushing for the move to come here for weeks. Spending nearly £11M and offering £60K+ a week to a player from Brazil is absurd. If he fails we are lumbered with him big time And when have I said we shouldn't be looking at International players. You have contradicted yourself, you said I want us to sign players like Vardy and Mahrez and then I don't want us to sign international players? Mahrez and Vardy are both internationals in case you haven't noticed Aranguez is a football manager signing, Even Cambiasso was to a certain extent
