He was only 19 and had never played regular football in Europe at any level, never mind at Premier League level, it was just a step too far for him at the time.
Spurs payed 9 million for him in 2008. Villa payed 3 million in 2010. Now he's at Forest. It's safe to say his career has gone down the toilet... Even if Lambert doesn't like Bent, how can you not pick a player whatsoever who cost 22 million? He'll be at Liverpool by February 1st.
Wood is on loan from WBA, Chris Hughton took him to Birmingham last season were he scored a lot of goals and had a great partnership with Marlon King, I noticed him when they played us last season and he scored but apart from that he had a great game causing us problems all night, Birmingham then sent him back because they were in financial problems despite Chris Hughton wanting to keep him in fact he said losing him was a big factor in them not getting promotion, i came on here and hoped NB would go for him but nothing happened. This season after we stuffed Millwall a couple of weeks later they got Wood and have never looked back since in fact there manager recently said he would love to keep him in January and they will do everything they can to either extend his loan or if they can afford him Buy him. He is big powerful scores goals 8 in the last 9 games and is pacey, I am positive he would be a great signing for the championship
Well its 99.99% certain that he wont be at Aston Villa by then.!!! Gutted that Villa won last night. Reading look doomed already. Bottom spot awaits now that DQPR have Harry. Could be Reading - Sunderland - Aston Villa in the drop zone by January 2013.
We could offer £1.5m then + 25% sell on. Wonder if Millwall would be interested in Stewart and Cullen on loan instead ?
I'd keep McLean here, he offers something none of our other strikers do, he puts himself about, troubles defenders and puts pressure on them. Also gets on alright up on his own latching onto long balls and holding onto it for a bit. Quite a useless starting option, but the best we've got when we're 1-0 in the final 10 minutes and hanging on for our lives. From the outside looking in he's also the big character at the club so getting rid may have an adverse effect on the rest of the players. So long as he'll accept a sensible wage for his ability, I'd definitely renew McLean. If we bring in another striker, I'd imagine Simpson would and should be the one to get the axe, he's a handy player but I just don't think he's good enough at this moment in time for a club trying to achieve what we are. Shame as in a few years I think he could make a lower end premier league player, but if we have better he won't be playing and there's no point having him if he's not going to play. Where have these Campbell rumours come from? I know it's an obvious link and been talked about alot but I've not heard anything about him for awhile, specially nothing in terms of interest and definitely not about an agreed fee. Has this been doing the rounds long?
I've noticed that CI have released a story in the past few hours that says we are looking into getting Campbell on loan and Stockdale on a permanent deal..... Are they a few days behind at 'CI Towers'?
I don't see why we can't prise Wood from Milwall. We'll be able to offer the club and player more money and we've got better promotion hopes than them (especially if he came). Why would he want to stay there? Surely other clubs will be interested.
This puzzles me, you're not the only one to say it, but why do people like the idea of having McLean to come off the bench more than they like the idea of us having 4 strikers that are better than McLean?
Do we? Looking at positions in the table I wouldn't be so sure. We're similarly placed now, he'll know whether or not he's enjoying it there, and he'll know who they're aiming to sign (if they're trying to sign him they must be telling him what they plan to do to help convince him). If he comes to us it's a gamble on settling (area and team) for no noticable improvement in chances.
Where've you heard that? I know it could very well be media bollocks, but the reports are that Bent stormed out of the dressing room and tried to leave the stadium last night when he wasn't named in the squad. If he's being left out because of a contractual clause he would know about it and wouldn't have been surprised to be left out, surely.
Read my post, it's about having options offering different things. We bring another striker in and that's 4 quality strikers, more than enough. McLean offers that doggedness and harassment needed to help relieve pressure and scrape through the last few minutes when we're a goal in front and the enemies are throwing the kitchen sink at us. None of our other strikers offer that, so whilst we'd have better options for scoring etc I think we'd be weaker in the sense we'd lose a dimension from the squad, as we pretty much have the other types of forward players covered.
