Luckily, I was re-directed here by my daily bout of neg-rep <laugh>

You apparently think that Celtic winning half as many league cups as leagues displays a lack of focus on the tournament.

However, over the last fifty years, I think only four teams have won the league compared with quite a lot winning the league cup.

Winners of the league cup in the last 50 years include, from memory, Thistle, Raith Rovers, Livi, Killie, Hibs etc etc.

It's a shorter tournament with a wider amount involved in it and, as statistically a bigger variety of teams win it than the league, it is also less statistically likely that the same team will win it repeatedly.

In short, I don't believe Thistle put an infinitely higher amount of effort into the league cup every season rather than the league to have won won it by a factor of infinity (or 100% depending on your chosen mathematical philosophy - I once did a presentation on dividing by zero :))

And I don't believe that Celtic put 100% or infinity% less effort into UEFA Cup Winners Cup than the league simply by the fact that we've never won it.

Hope this clears up any confusion.
You proved my point perfectly , just from your memory after reading Wikipedia
All those wee diddy teams won the League Cup because the strong teams in
Scotland had other priorities that they felt were more important. Thanks very
much Biggus if I need help to clarify a point again . I know to ask you.
Isn't it just wonderful when people help each other out in these threads
rather than playing the man all the time.

Nope, they won it because it isn't based over 30 odd games and in any one-off game, the favourites can be knocked out.

Cup football provides more winners than league football.

Really Biggus, could it be the better team are able to concentrate better over
Long periods and the weaker teams can raise their games more for one off.
I thin that is nearly what I was saying all along and finally our thoughts merge.
The strong clubs concentrate on the competitions that reward the best and need
More and longer concentration. I am not saying that the Celtic players were
Right last Sunday , just giving an explanation why they were not as sharp as usual.
