Cheers Este. Not entirely convinced we need another midfielder at the moment. Some width and a CB & striker would be my first three choices of player we need now

I hate to say this, guys, but we ain't getting wingers. You can put your house on it. Perhaps one as a tactical option, but that's it. Reason? Simple - Cellino is on record as favouring the 433/451 formation. He's also the guy who buys in the players to operate in this system. So why would he buy wingers?

My assessment of yesterday's game is very similar to Leeds60's OP. One point I'd like to labour though is how poor Hunt was. Although he was supposed to be out injured for a spell, and appeared to limp quite often during the match, I have absolutely no sympathy for him. I gave him another chance, like you do, but he was all over the place and wasn't even in the country far less be in the zone. He was awful, a complete waste of space, and regularly got in people's way. Completely lost. He has to go. The Hock has a big job on his hands to build up some credibility with the fans. He'll get nowhere with this if he persists with Hunt.

Think with Smith giving us a different option, Morison putting in a half decent performance, Doukarra doing okay, Poleon being able to play on the left of a front 3, and maybe at least one newbe coming in soon, Hunt's days are definitely numbered. Given what the Hock said about no plans to let anyone else go, maybe Hunt will go out on loan to get game time.

Oddly enough, as far as I could make out, Hunt was playing in midfield yesterday!

I get the feeling Hunt will not take part in any competitive matches. Yesterday might have been as much about shop window time for him which of course backfired. We may have to bite the bullet and keep him till January and most of his contract will have run down. Would be way cheaper to pay him off then

What's all this pay him off business? Shove him in with the kids so he leaves of his own accord.

Suppose he can only move on if someone wants him. Hard to see that

Surprised Cellino isn't taking Reading to court for misleading description of a player. BMcD should be kicked out football for a lot of this garbage and as it turns out Warnock was a better judge of players and tactics, so that says a lot

Everyone knows my thoughts on McD and I would still be amazed if he manages above L1 ever again.

Yes, but why pay him off. What's in it for us? Make him more amenable by letting him rot with the kids (training only, not playing).

It also sends out the message "This could happen to you if you're not careful"!

I wonder what Hunt and Morison's combined wages are and when you work out their cost to goals ratio I bet it is sickening

If that gives you a fright, start thinking about what we paid Veg Varney for each goal!

Wingers play in the 433/451 formations, its the 442 formations they don't work in. In 442 you need players who can defend and protect the fullbacks somewhat. In 433, its all about stretching the opposition as much as possible and the most effective way to do this is by playing very wide expansive players such as Gradel and Snodgrass.

I think I would still prefer Varney over Hunt and Morison, when you think we had Becchio, Beckford and McCormack and end up with Hunt, Morison and Varney

Combined wage of approx 1.5m per year. Divide three or four into that, about 400 to 500k a goal
