Which is exactly what I said earlier to someone else.....acknowledging that we both could be right or wrong and that I hoped both players would come good. My lad has a better first touch than Phillips who must have got lucky with that one last week. Throw a hundred difficult passes to anyone and they'll control it at least once. Anyway, I made the mistake of engaging with you, so I'll leave it there as far as you're concerned.
I thought Hoillet was terrible, and practically the only negative point (other than the loss) of a good performance. Looks completely uninterested and lethargic, shot of confidence, and a shadow of the player who was on Blackburn's books. (cheers for the writeup though Col, always interesting to see others opinions!)
Did you go to the match Grif ? I thought Hoilett did well, at least he takes the ball goes FORWARD and trys to take on players, albeit not always with success. At the moment we are kings of back pass.
He's a shadow of the player who was one of Blackburn's best players in the Premier League, he's gone backwards with us...
From what I've seen of Hoilett and Philips this season, I'd select Philips first every day of the week. Hoilett continuously makes the wrong decisions whether to cross, shoot or whatever and is consistently running into dead ends. I was majorly surprised to find O'Neill in the starting line-up yesterday, I thought that after last week a place on the bench would have been the best he could have hoped for. Strange as it might sound, I'd happily see SWP starting down the left rather than O'Neill or Hoilett (who would remain a sub). At the very least, his pace puts the fullback on the defensive; O'Neill just isn't any sort of threat - although this isn't entirely his fault as I'm not sure he's actually a winger anymore, if indeed he's ever been one. Ned must come back into the defence. Whoever said leaving him out was a mistake was absolutely right.
I did Iwas, I was in SA road so got a good view of him during the 2nd half. He's so predictable and slow witted on the ball at the moment. I think he'd benefit from being encouraged to come more central more often, as his effectiveness increases when opposition defences don't know whether he'll cut left/right whilst running at them. By the touchline he seems to get into a bit of a predictable non-threatening funk. I didn't think he was much better yesterday than Vs Blackburn 2 weeks ago, there must be something up with him or he wouldn't have been dropped? Think we'd probably have won if O'niel stayed on, we were doing fine!
What has W-Phillips done to be frozen out of the squad altogether? He was actually playing quite well up until he was bombed out.
No idea. As a winger, I'd pick him ahead of O'Neill every time; and I've been quite critical of him in the past.
Annoying thing was, that in the last five minutes, when it presumably dawned on the players that we were going to lose, there was a real urgency about them and they created a few chances. Had they played with the same attitude 40 minutes earlier, we would have taken something from the game.
I agree entirely. His game was summed up by that run into the box captured perfectly in close up by Sky when he simply needed to make a six yard pass to Austin I think it was (although it could have been Krancjar) who was clear and could have shot first time. Unfortunately he didn't look up and was then dispossessed. Perhaps we all have him wrong. It's not that he does not have a brain. It's his chronic lack of spatial awareness and his sense of insecurity that makes him run with the ball and refuse to share with his team mates. Children grow out of it. He shows no signs of doing so.
Apparently McLaren spent a lot of time and attention on Hoilett pre season, lots of arm round the shoulders stuff, and he was our most dangerous player first few games. The he got injured, McLaren left and he's been **** ever since. Draw your own conclusions.
Can't see there was any reason to call Swords a prat he has made some good points IMO. Generally we know that Col is a bit of a worrier ... you only have to loo at the first half yesterday to see how good we are or can be our football was very slick Based on that and the fact that it wasn't too long ago we were on here discussing that we couldn't keep the bloody ball under Hughes and NW I think we have come a long way. The foxes got the result yesterday lads time to move on ... there aren't many teams that could match us based on simple footballing terms I saw yesterday. Goals win matches of course and i think we all think we can play better and we have to have faith in that. Glass half full here ... has to be I am a QPR fan
He was part of a unit which bossed the first half and could've been a couple up though. At least he's got the balls for a fight and gives it his all, which is more than can be said for Hoillet right now.
Personally, I can't agree with this. Whilst he scored against HT, the aspects of Hoilett's game which frustrate some supporters have been evident from the start of the season, imo. Against HT, LU and Burnley he consistently ran into dead ends, picked the wrong option whether it be shooting when a pass was the better option or vice versa and so forth. In fits and starts, Hoilett has shown some flair but personally I wouldn't ascribe his generally poor showings to anyone but himself.
I thought the same at half-time. Despite a couple of players being under par, we actually played well that first half and I thought Harry should've just sent the same team back out again and say more of the same. Give them 20 minutes and then make a change when required. But you're damned if you do and damned if you don't as a Manager.
Is disagreeing with me your new specialist subject Husky? Join the queue..... You may be right, he is after all that most inconsistent and maddening of delicate creatures, a winger. He was good first half of the first game against Wednesday though, honest guv. Last decent winger we had was Dave Thomas....
