Thanks Col. Find that a bit bizarre but I guess we did not lose which we often seem to that way round. Perhaps JB just wants us to play any which way at home and win. Some sense in that too.

Suppose so mate. They definitely kicked off which must mean we chose ends. I don't like it though...as you say, it doesn't feel right does it?

I think that the fluidity is the key and definitely what is required, hence my impression of 4-1-4-1 and Col's of 4-2-3-1. I have faith in Col’s judgement and he was better placed to see the formations than me. Maybe some of us need to be less rigid in our thinking! ;)

Have a look and make your own mind up mate.
I'm simply saying that 4-5-1 can encompass all the other formations that play with one up front, such as 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 etc. It can be fluid as the game dictates.

Good post Col, I watched online and is a good assesment of what I saw and I could even see we were playing 4141 formation, the only thing I would change about your ratings is to mark down a few by .5 but that is splitting hairs.(Ferdinand, Traore, Barton)

By the way Flyer is a Wum in my opinion and rarely gives a positive post far too busy slagging our players usually around midweek. He will argue a stupid point incorrectly until you are blue in the face, see above, and always wants it his way as no other opinions count. He reminds me of the kid at school that if he doesn't get it his way he will not play.

Some call Yappy a wum but at least he can be funny this twat is just annoying.

Had the game finished 2-1, and it would have done but for the miss of the season, no one would question Col's ratings. In fact they would probably argue they should be higher!

Cheers Roller. From my seat yesterday, we were definitely playing 5 across the middle which varied in complexion at different times. Flyer's assertion of needing a central player playing directly off the forward in a 4-2-3-1 is just plain wrong!!

Col, you are right mate. 5 in midfield can be dressed up in many ways but will always be 5.

Cisse back next week, back to 4-4-2, end to this bollocks about formations. Only questions whether Diakite replaces Derry and whether we go for Taiwo -Traore on the left, move Adel to the right and which one of Barton or Buz gets to play centre mid. My preference would be Traore, Diakite, Barton, Adel across the middle, but expect Traore to stay left back and for us to see SWP, Diakite, Barton, Adel.
Col, your ratings are fine can't wait to see them when we really click.

Sb73 think you're right and Hughes will revert back to the 4-4-2 but i don't think he will do it til the second half. wouldn't be surprised to see us start like we did on Saturday.

Both weeks Kenny has struggled in the warm up with seeing the ball coming in from ellerslie road side. Deliberate to avoid it I feel and understandable if you've stood and looked as he would.

I think that will be MH's midfield too mate. Don't forget that your 4-4-2 will also be 4-1-3-2 and 4-4-1-1 at times...........just saying!!!!!!

Flyer you need to show more humility, can't win every argument you know. Come to think of it I can't remember you've backed down once and given another opinion the credit it might have deserved. Grew tired of this weeks ago and seldom look to debate with you as it seems pointless.

To be fair I think it was Igor who said it when you both joined in January that you would argue just for the sake of it, as he knew you from other boards.

Sorry, my intention is not to personally attack you and jump on the bandwagon on this thread, just a piece of friendly advice.

Good OP Col, and pretty much agree. It was 4-2-3-1 for me - this is also confirmed on the match report on the Official no less! As I recall Col, you like me wanted us to play this way but didn't think MH would! Well he's found the best formation now as shown by a more organised solid team performance yesterday. As we said it would, it helped us to be more solid back, and more fluent and flexible going forward. Really hope MH sticks with this now.

For the next game I hope he leaves the defense as is, and the only definite change I'd make would be for Cisse to come in for SWP, probably, Buzacky possibly. He may bring Diakite in for Derry, though it maybe safer starting with Derry, and leaving Diakite for a 2nd half substitution when our old hero's legs slow-
