Looking back, I can't help but wonder what Lambert was actually planning with the line-up he chose. He played Elliott Bennett as CAM intending to use his speed, with Pilkington obviously intended to provide crosses for Holt, Johnson there to provide steel whilst Howson and Surman provide creativity. But in the end all we were doing was hoofing long balls down for Holt to chase!

It just seems to me the line-up we had didn't match the football we were trying to play.

How'd Howson do? he's considerably better in that CAM role

Probably not the best game to assess him on. We were outplayed and outfought across the pitch so Howson didn't really get a chance. He's not a big lad and so trying to match Stoke's physicality didn't look his sort of thing. On top of that I saw a few Leeds fans saying his long-range passing is awesome- in very windy conditions he could not use that at all. He worked very hard though and was probably best described as a little over-eager to impress. By no means put himself to shame though and there were glimpses of his potential
