The team looked well balanced yesterday. A good mix of experience and youthful ambition and no-fear. Faurlin's distribution was excellent but I do worry about his difficulties staying on his feet at critical times - hope he just had the wrong studs on and there's not an inherent weakness now, because as you say Col, one fall and loss of possession resulted in a goal against. Big week ahead - off the pitch
Nice one Col. I've just watched the full 90 minutes and this report sums up the game nicely. I do think you're a tad harsh on both Austin and Faurlin though. On Charlie, I'll accept the opinion of those who have seen him play a number of matches this season that his heart isn't in it. However from what I have seen, yesterday especially, it looks to me that he is more than doing his bit. He might need to be seen to be busting a gut when playing the world's best but in truth he does not actually need to against most of the teams in this Championship. He oozes class. He applies himself, challenges wholeheartedly and gets stuck into defenders when he gets the opportunity to do so. You can probably say the same for Phillips. Both seemed to me to be pacing themselves and conserving their energy for those moments when they needed it. Yesterday's heat might also have had something to do with that. As for Ale, when I read that their first goal came from his mistake I wondered what he had done. Now I know. He slipped. These things happen occasionally. It was unfortunate but hardly a mistake. To condemn it as such implies that with a bit of foresight and greater care and attention you can always avoid slipping. That is impossible if you are concentrating on something else at the time such as the player tackling you or the position of the team mate you want to pass to.
Faurlin slipped on a few occasions. I wonder if it's due to his injuries that he doesn't wear studs and uses those bladey boot things. We didn't have them in my day. You opted for aluminium or moulded.
The only disappointment was the lack of other 1975 players. Only Don Shanks (there for the free beer) turned up. Did the club not invite the '75 squad or did they decline?
Saturday was dedicated to Stan Bowles, the rest of the 75/76 squad will turn up at various games throughout the season.
The club are using the whole season to celebrate the 30th anniversary Totally. Hence the retro matchday programme etc.
I think Chery will be in the Premiership next year with or without us.. Really good to see a young talent like Luongo go from strength to strength each game. He's comfortably made the step up from League 1.
Watched the full 90 and still believe we need to wait another 6 games until we get any idea That game was loose IMO
Yep, but the direction and intention was clear to see. And positive. It'll take some of these players a bit of time to lose the shackles and play with joy.
Looked very good I meant the game was loose from both sides it was a open game Rotherham made some very good chances
I think we will be a bit bipolar, until it settles down - some good stylish wins and a few thumpings. I'll take that over what we've had for the last few years.
