I dunno. He obviously missed some and is by no means the finished article in terms of finishing (or anything else for that matter), but he looked comfortable when on form. The goal against Man City was nice and composed, as was the goal against Soton at the start of the season. I think he's got it in him, he just needs consistency, form and confidence (as does the rest of the team, although they have been fairly consistent this season...)

  2. I didn't agree with that at the time nor now, I don't think he knew what to do and landed fortunate with Hart gifting the goal to him.

He has scored some this goals too but I liken him to Theo Walcott; better playing on instinct and struggles when he has time to think.

He had 2 chances to square to a team mate for a tap in but decided to go for the shot. At one point the option was Lallana and the other was Balotelli. Said during the game I think Sterling thinks hes the big man at the club now Suarez is gone and Sturridge is injured so wanted to do it all himself. Had Suarez/Sturridge been in that poition for a tap in I think Sterling would pass it.

  4. That's decision making which will get better with age. Not ideal now but then, we shouldn't be having a nineteen year old as our star man either.

Fair points Gez - he should have done better but I have no doubt he will improve in that respect.

However, at least he AND Mario looked a lot better in this set up, and both made great runs and got into good positions,

Agree to disagree on that one. There have been plenty of other times where he's dithered or played poor shots, but I don't think that was one of them.

I made a similar point on our board. I think Sterling missed all his chances yesterday because:

    1. De Gea is starting to get a rep for pulling off great saves, and that makes strikers overthink it when one on one with him
    2. Sterling is the type of player who seems prone to overthinking things when he has time, when a better striker would do their own thing and ignore who the keeper is

Sterling needs to improve in front of goal, true, but I'm sure that will come with greater experience.
His overall play is still better than anyone else's in the team and he needs, and deserves, praise for that rather than criticism for his shortcomings.
