Milner frankly looks much better business and more suited to Liverpool's high energy game.

Toure needs to go to a league that plays at half pace. Italy or France looks almost certain.

I don't think we've had brothers playing together in the team before and I don't think Yaya would ever come to us anyway.

Should do if he has any interest in playing football for a couple years before he retired to a mansion someplace

It's a shame that most of the old hands are on their way out. We need a balance of old and new and it's tipping very strongly towards the new and raw atm.

  7. We do need a balance but the three/four oldies going have been poor for a while now; Jones, Toure, Johnson and Gerrard. Jones may re-sign yet and Milner possibly coming in (29yrs old) would help counter that too.

Yaya would not move to Liverpool as much as you would like to dream about it. If clubs are asking for a free transfer to match his wage demands......will FSG ever give him anywhere what he would be requesting/wanting/has at City

It's not all about the play though, it's also about the dressing room and instilling confidence in the younger lads and showing passion and commitment that it's hoped will rub off. It's the intangibles they add that you just can't quantify.

  11. True but those four combined cost us about £350k per week (£18.2m per annum), that's a expensive dressing room atmosphere <laugh> We can't have players purely for the dressing room, they need to be able to play too.

Agreed, but I'd take 1 or 2 to fire the young lads up to perform how they should be performing, whether or not they added much in play themselves. If you knew for example every time Toure played, Sterling had a blinder as well, would you take watching the slow oldie at one end while the youngster stuck them in at the other?

  13. If they are good enough to play then I have no issue.

Using Toure as an example, he may be good role model mentality in the dressing room but does he set a good example when it comes to playing? Happy to sit and accept a reserved role and be paid for being lively in the dressing room? That's a bad role model IMO.

I'll always opt for quality attacking play over a decent defence so that last question is a bit one sided for me <laugh>

    excuse me but....

    gerrard
    toure
    johnson

    .....

    delivered exactly what.

the only way ONLY WAY to give young lads a gee up if to have guys who are stars giving great performances. Coutinho's looked at balotelli and gerrard and johnson early on this year and said **** it if you are not bothered why should i?

LFC add milner they don't add leadership or a great player... they add work rate

WE need a torres style signing IMO. simple as that. need a guy to get the crowd singing their name and bouncing up and down with excitment.

I disagree. Listen to players past and present talking about the value of the old guard in terms of teaching them how to be a good professional etc. etc. The players you name have been there, done that, and while they are now in their twilight years of playing, they are good role models because of what they've done. A huge amount of youngsters are still inspired by old has beens. There'll be kids all over the world still being Pele in the school yard!

Yes but..... if they are now bad examples just by not really giving anything on the itch to look up to?

They might not be balotelli's or worse joey bartons... but they are in no way an alan hanson or a kenny dalglish just to give a couple examples of our heyday.

Skertl is 29. he's i nthe team performing. I'd content he;s far better an example as a result than glen jonhson who minds himself and doesn't track back.

There might indeed be players being pele but they are being people being pele 1970... there might be kids being gerrard locally but they are being gerrard 2005... ie... looking at the prime.

Bear in mind I never suggested Johnson as a role model <laugh>

    gerrard then

the worship on our webstie is one thing but the day to day and then the match doesn't add up.

he's a spoilt child recently since sulking and heading to usa... he's performances are muck and he still acts like he's the one and only then gets sent off ending our season.

    great role model.... for sterling.

Don't get me wrong - he's not the first players on my list of targets, that's for sure, and I rather we avoided him.

But he is talented if he is completely absolved of all defensive duties.

But our best players are the youngsters - the old heads have been shocking this season which is evidence that age/experience is not all that important.
