He didn't win a race. The mascot Grand National is now boycotted in favour of these Olympics by some mascots because of the ringers and betting scams (no I'm not kidding) that have become attached to it. eg a few years ago a rugby club made up a mascot for the day and stuck one of their players in it so they'd get the publicity of winning it, and in the run up to the event there were a lot of bets put on that mascot to win.
