Hughton said that he intended to go 4-4-2, but Holt's last minute injury put paid to that. It wasn't a good game to watch, but I'm sorry, I can't agree that they weren't trying. Kamara, when he came on, looked very promising.
We play with a "must not lose" mentality now which sacrifices creativeness and flair for solidness and dour. Just the way things are and we have to accept that in order to survive (this season) - playing the traditional City way is going to be a limited offer for the remaining games. In saying that we still created enough chances to have won the game. Not pretty to watch but a points a point and with Reading, Wigan and QPR all losing that's another point clear and another game less to play.
Simple as this. I would rather stay up and be last on match of the day than see the club i love go down. We are on course to staying up ffs. I don't think people realise the reason we don't score as much or create as much is because we don't attack in shear numbers like we did last season. If we stay up we will add some real attacking quality. And we will probably be a very strong premier league team once that happens.
So true. Millions of pounds spent and we are (at the moment) better off. Have we got to the stage where the short term glory-results and performances brigade are even influencing a fringe club like ours?
Think its worth remembering we were going to start with two strikers today until Holt got injured. Which obviously would be a more positive formation.
I'd love to see how we'd have lined up with Becchio and Holt, 4-4-2, but a diamond? Or Hoolahan dropped?
Hoolahan and Snodgrass are the brains of the outfit at the moment. At the moment for me Wes has to be first name on the sheet. On the striker front there is competition for places at the moment so those four players competing for places will have to up their game.
If we could find another Snodgrass to operate on the left, we may start to get some meaningful service into the solitary striker. Pilks, lately has been off his game attacking-wise and Bennett yesterday was woeful. (Apologies to carrabuh - I was bigging Benno up after the Posh game, but Posh appear to be his level of opposition) And as it became more apparent that Fulham came for a point, why not sacrifice either Tettey or Johnson for someone more attacking. Lambert had the ability to change shape/formation during a game, depending on how it was panning out, whereas Hughton is so set and intransigent it becomes dour - and embarrassing
Just seen this, which reinforces many of the points raised already about negative tactics and a totally boring spectacle. http://www.carrowroad.net/cnews/index.php?post=uninspiring-clueless
