Why the **** did we even buy that absolute nugget?

He scored 39 goals in 53 apps for Deportivo B, who play in the FOURTH level of Spanish football. He then only scored 12 goals in 44 apps for Deportivo, which should have rang alarm bells already. However, someone felt that this was good enough to warrant a £5.7mill transfer to the Premier League and massive wages.

Without a doubt one of the most moronic transfer decisions ever made in EPL history.

4th level of Spanish football is worse than it sounds as well, correct me if I'm wrong but it's literally a pyramid, I think there's over 100 teams playing at 4th level.

Still, he looks good on youtube! <ok>

It's like buying a striker who scored 39 goals in 55 apps for a club in League Two, then 1 in 4 in a Championship club, and giving him a 5 year contract at £80,000 per week.

Sign him up! Sounds just the type of player we need. Is he French though?

To be fair knocking his B Team goal tally doesn't make a lot of sense since he was in his teens at the time, its the equivalent of our reserves except they fit into the league pyramid rather than a separate league how we run it. Agreed otherwise though, his senior tally wasn't enough to justify a 5 mil move.

He's a strange one really, technically very good but not particularly quick or strong, and we tend to demand one or the other over here. He's a much better fit on the continent where he'll get more time to play those passes. Still think he'd have been decent off a striker a few years back, but with Ben Arfa et al he's probably better off back in Spain. No ill feeling towards him, the 'injury' situation around relegation was strange but no idea what really happened. Good luck to him if he moves on.

This and Chappaz.. are you saying that the Championship is on par with La Liga???!!! <yikes>

La Liga is IMO in the ''big three'' in terms of best European leagues(EPL/Bundesliga).

That must have been the one they showed Keegan.

Also, could he have been signed to help Collocini feel at home?

if it is for the reason of the appearance fee, would it not suit to let his contract run, then offer him another 2 year deal in which there would b no set clauses or extra money to be paid. i was excited when i signed him and am disappointed as he hasnt really been given a chance. he scored 2 goals for deportivo whilst on loan this year. see no reason to have kept him this long without any minor hope that he may become a starting 11 striker for us. just doesnt make sense. if, from the off, they knew it was a bad signing then surely by now they could have sent him packing somewhere. why pay the mans wage when you never plan on using him

Nobody would buy him, even though he was up for sale.

The problem with La Liga is that there's a huge gap in ability between different sets of teams.

In the EPL, there's a steady reduction in quality from the top teams down to the bottom. However, they're all of EPL standard.

With La Liga, firstly Barca and Real Madrid are miles ahead of the rest of the teams. You then have the good EPL standard teams after that, such as Valencia, Villareal, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. However, after that, most of the teams are of Championship standard. They have nowhere near as much cash as even the bottom-half EPL teams, so they have to rely on cheaper home grown players. None of them are really capable of buying (or paying the wages) of good quality players from either Spain or abroad. They are actually quite similar to the situation most Championship clubs find themselves in.

So, whilst players like Xisco come up against some of the best players in the world from time to time (like players in Barca and Madrid) for the most part, he would have been up against Championship quality opposition.

Very good points BUT have you seen the technical levels of ''the supposed Championship teams''. I'll rather watch them play than Blackburn, Wolves, Stoke, etc. For example look at Hercules FC(I follow them), they bought the likes of Trezuguet, Valdez, etc.. and MANAGED to beat Barca at there own backyard 2-0 with both goals coming from Valdez.. yet they still got relegated! <yikes>

The quality isn't that bad IMO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hércules_CF

It's about time he went, never given a fair chance but not worth keeping him now
