Sorry mate, but this lad is a one trick pony. Put it front of him in the six yard box and he's got something on it....I think I;ve mentioned about knees, shins and ankles! The down side is his offsides, his lack of awareness, his first touch, his giving away free kicks wnen he challenges....he's not for us going forwards.
But isnt that what the majority of League 1 strikers are like? All but the very few are going to have major flaws. Im not suggesting that we should rely on him, put all our eggs into his basket. But unless we have somebody 100% certain lined up and signed to replace him, I cant help feeling that we may find ourselves starting with Grigg up front, Stewart on the bench. I'm rather hoping that Wyke wants to leave because he knows he's going to be 2nd choice, that we have somebody more exciting lined up, a decent Championship level player who we have managed to sell our hopes and plans to, so its a no brainer for him to leave for better things. Being linked to Celtic? It will never get any better for him. I just hope we have a plan when/if he leaves.
Its the hope that we will start throwing our weight around financially that influences our feelings towards Wyke. If Donald still held the purse strings, we'd be chewed to death at the prospect of our 30 goal striker leaving on a free.
Yes and if Donald was still in charge most of us would be expecting another disappointing season in League 1. We have new owners and new direction now. Theres too many people looking at Wykes goals last season instead of looking at the bigger picture. Other than last season whats he ever done? Hes 29 this year, his highest ever goalscoring season before last was 13, the season we signed him from Bradford. Last seasons stats makes him look like a Top striker, but lets be honest hes really not. Hopefully our football will improve next season aswell now instead of playing hoof ball.

Dont get me wrong I'd like to see him replaced by somebody better. I'd like to think that we would sign that somebody before we let Wyke go. In doing so we can make Wykes decision for him. Officially we have offered him a deal havnt we? Which puts me in the mindset that we havnt anybody about to walk through the door. I hope our new set up have Plans B, C, D and E etc lined up, something we dont seemed to have had for a long time.
Its the worry that we may end up with worse that gets me. I can see it now 'having Grigg back is like a new signing' says Johnson.
Im not saying im happy to see him go either mate, if he was still under contract then so be it, id want him to just be a squad player though, with another main striker brought in and have Wyke 2nd or 3rd choice. The fact he is going doesnt bother me in the slightest though.
Just my thought in the subject and some may disagree but I think Wyke owes the season he's just had and this possible transfer to Celtic on LJ. When Johnson came in, he explained that he had to train Wyke on how to attack the near post and to make this new fangled strategy work he needed someone who could put the ball in the danger zone - enter a certain Aiden McGeady who did just that. For me, for a manager to explain to a 27 year old striker what he should be doing anyway at times, speaks volumes on the type of striker Wyke is. We all saw what he was like in front of goal when he had time to think rather thank rely on instinct. So all I can say is well done for scoring 30 goals last season and enjoy the extra cash you'll be getting and let's see who comes in to replace him.
Hes 28 mate, hes 29 in December. This is the only chance he'll ever have playing in Europe and competing for a league title. You really cant blame him for going to Celtic can you?
Not really but can you really see him causing problems up there? If they put the ball on a plate for him to score then they'll love him but if he struggles in front of goal like he's done here at times there'll be no hiding place for him.
I know mate, i hope for his sake hes not Edourds replacement because the Celtic fans will be in for a big disappointment if he is
Looking from the outside, Celtic are in a transition with would probably why they plumped for the Australian manager who apparently has a good record of building clubs up. I reckon he's under major pressure before the season has locked off with Rangers winning the title by a big margin and looking like they have a bit of money to spend on re-enforcements. He's gonna have you try and match them on the pitch but if Wyke is the pointer to how much money they are going to spend it's going to be a long season
