Talking of which, our credentials are going to be put to a decent test in the coming week, with Brentford on Wednesday and Luton on Saturday.

It would be uplifting for us to see Luton Town off this time with an emphatic win. Brentford’s Mr Toney will not squander his chances so we can’t afford to squander ours.

Ah but are we being clinical or not? The stats thread will probably set us straight shortly. <laugh>

It would be interesting to see a table of our shots on target and conversion rate v other teams.

According to one of the tweets, they always take a vacuum cleaner on the bus which gets unloaded along with the tactics boards etc.

Caution: this is transfermarkt, so accuracy of figures not guaranteed!
The conversion rates given are Shots/goals. On that basis, our conversion rate of 7.1% puts us 14th in the CR table. Transfermarkt don't give a separate rate for SOT/goals, but they do give the SOT figures so rates are easily calculated. Haven't done the complete table but for comparison:
    Brentford: 14.4%
    Reading: 13%
    Swansea: 12.5%
    Watford: 11.6%
    Norwich: 9.6%

(NB The German for SOT is "Schüsse auf das Tor", literally translated by Transfermarkt as "Shots at the goal".)

That's interesting. That for me provides statistical support to the view that we need to be more clinical in front of goal. 7.1% puts us below the 7.5% average for the league. In 18/19 our conversions rate of 60%.

60% must be goals per shots on target rather than goals per shots on goal?

I think it is a mix of poor finishing with a touch of poor decision making (i.e. taking a silly shot when we shouldn't, or failing to shoot when we should)

It's obviously a thoroughly decent thing to do, and I'm somewhat surprised/disappointed it's deemed remarkable enough to comment on.

I do wonder if this is something taken from the All Blacks, a team Webber has oft-cited as a influence on his managerial style. As well as the "no dickheads" approach to recruitment and personalities, they have a "sweep the shed" policy, where the team themselves are kept humble and grounded (other Webber buzzwords) by cleaning the dressing room together after a match.

That's weird, WhoScored (I don't know what the general view is on the accuracy of their figures), put Norwich way out last at 15.7 shots per goal (Blackburn next at 13.8 shots per goal and the best is Bristol City at 8.1 shots per goal). 15.7spg is a conversion rate of c.6.34%.

We are also joint worst in terms of shots on target per goal (with Blackburn) at 5. Sheffield Wednesday are best at 2.7.

So those stats suggest we are the worst in the Championship (by quite a margin) and nearly twice as bad as the best.
