the one thing with our team is when we are bad we look like a sunday park team and when we are good we look like we could hold our own easily in a division higher, there is no consistency.
Dissapointed, could have done with three points, looking at the table the fight or automatic promotion (2nd and 3rd place) is getting close :$ As for Harris, I don't believe he will get much first team games this season, hopefully he will jump in next Also what do you guys think of Donnelly...? I remember one of his first games on loan he scored and really lead/influenced the team.
This match, I couldn't help but feel let down by the poor substitutions when we were chasing the game. As good as Ainsworth has been this season, he doesn't have the pace to be bought on as an impact sub, and slowed the game right down. His participation also meant Betsy moving to the left, where he is useless, in a match where he showed his quality down the right wing. It also changed the way we play, as we stopped playing long ball when he came on, and played through Ainsworth instead. When Pittman is on the pitch we need to play long ball, as this is his style of play, so him being bought on in the circumstances was pretty much useless. Also, Rendell was in the middle of every good forward and very easily could have scored our winning goal. For him to be replaced instead of the completely average Strevens was ridiculous. Lastly, Montrose is the man we want at the edge of the area, not Donnelly. I feel he would have buried that shot if he had the chance, whereas Donnelly was too urgent, and messed it up completely. If he had kept Rendell and Beavon on, and bought Pittman and Montrose on for Strevens and Bloomfield, I feel we could have won the match. As it is, we were as clueless in the last 15 minutes as we were in the first half, and didn't win the game.
agree about strevs ,i dont really see what he brings to our team and to take off rendell when we need a goal and leave strevs on amazed me.i also thought blooms was having a decent game and then he got subbed but maybe he had an injury who knows.i also agree about betsy he was playing really well on the right and as soon as he was switched out to the left we were never gonna win.
For a bloke who has not been down to Wycombe for about 4 months i thought i would give people my honest opinion The first half was awful we could not pass the ball, Foster was getting roasted by the Aldershot winger and most of the Wycombe players looked lost. How we went in at half time at 1-1 i will never know The second half was a lot better (could not have been worse) and for 20 minutes we looked a decent team but when Aldershot scored we seemed to go back in our shells. A few players looked out of their depth but i agree with Leon Johnson playing he looked solid at the back I think on what i saw and it is only one game that we will only make the play offs and will struggle for automatic promotion
I think they've turned a corner to be honest. I think the way they played in the second half is a taste of things to come and they have found themselves again after a difficult patch. I want Pittman to start though. He can't do much in 10 minutes or so at the end of the match. It was great to see Bloomfield and Betsy back too. I think automatic promotion will happen.
The first half was awful, amongst the worst 45 minutes of football all season. As said above, we were lucky to go in level. But we came out and played really well at the start of the second half and should've buried the game. The chances we missed and positions we got in to and wasted were incredible, Beavon and Strevens were particulalrly wasteful. Once they equalised we went back to how we played in the first half and Aldershot looked more likely to win it in the end. I bet they couldn't believe their luck as they were a very poor team. Chesterfield, Bury etc would've murdered this lot. I thought Betsy was excellent, even though some of the Frank Adams idiots were still moaning about him. Beavon's hassling has been missed lately and Rendell was involved in a lot of the good stuff we did. Johnson looked decent on his return, how Hylton only got a yellow for the blatant stamp on him was ridiculous. Foster is a decent defender but useless against pace. McGlashan was rubbish but had the beating of Foster every time. Strevens was poor again, either put him up front or on the bench. He's not a left mid!! I'm not making excuses, but the pitch didn't help. It's the same for both teams but we couldn't get any decent passing game or fluid moves going as players needed 2 touches to get the ball under control. I think Wasps only have 1 home game left so hopefully this will improve in the run in as it's a real state at the moment. Simey - I don't see how you think we've turned a corner, we're massively out of form and sides around us are right in form. We need to get back on track quickley or we could slip out of the promotion race altogether.
I quite like Strevens as an attacking link up player. He's a very hard worker but he's not really a natural goalscorer there. So it feels like we are trying to find a place to keep him on the pitch. Everyone sees the game and the players through different eyes, but it seems that GW has a fondness for Ben that is not justified by his performances. I have become a big fan of Beavon this season. He is not only a bundle of energy and committment, but he also is a pretty talented player. GW knows a lot more about football than I, but I would have picked Beaver more often than Ben recently. I think he offers and creates a lot more.
i think we should put beever or jp out on the left rather than strevs we need a balance and at the moment we havent got that.yesterday we could have got beat after a woeful first half.we came out much better in the second half but again missed chances to kill the game off,i think we are missing sandell big time he was always going forward on the left and has scored a good amount of goals for a full back.i agree with wandermagic what was looking like a cert for auto promotion is now looking dodgy and unless we pick up quickly we are gonna be left behind.the play offs are looking a more realistic option at the moment.we have to do something about the left hand side and leon must stay in the side if we are to have any hope of going up automatic.
Yeah, probably an over reaction (drinking at lunchtime), it was just the way they played beginning of the 2nd half was so encouraging to see. Apart from the lack of finishing. I'm always optimistic too!
For me Strevens on the left does not work - he cuts inside all the time and is so predictable. I would play Pittman on the left against Barnet. At the moment, I will say the same as I did a couple of months ago - playoffs for us this season, probably losing out. We don't have the consistency to get automatic promotion right now - and it's incredibly frustrating that it's the case, especially when IMO, this is a poor league.
I just hate the thought of another season in league 2 Rocky. The same games against cloggers like Accrington, Macclesfield and Burton, the poor crowds, and the nervousness of it all. It's nice to be winning most games, but we want to charge into league one, not reverse into it as we did in 08/09. Right now I don't think we'll even manage that.
our home form hasnt been that good and we should be beating teams like accy and the shots and the thought of another season in this division is something i am dreading.
Rocky - Sounds like you're talking about our team or several others in the top 8 there. There is a lot of inconsistency within this league and only Chesterfield seem to have recovered from their blip.
agreed matstser any team that puts a run of three or four wins in a row are gonna be in the driving seat for the autos,at the moment i cant see it being wycombe, but i hope i am wrong.
Yeah the start of the second half was much better. But our inability to kill off the game when dominating like that was so frustrating. I'm usually optimistic too but I was so annoyed on the way home! Like Rocky and JS, I'm really not enjoying the thought of another season in league 2. Lunchtime drinking might be the answer.
I though after Tuesday we would be raring to go and put that performance right, but no we looked awful. I agree with everyone we had a great start to the 2nd half and should have capitalised on it! Why we cant keep that level of pressure up I dont know. We are all a bit doom and gloom at the moment and rightly so given our recent form, however we need to get behind the lads massively to try and give them a boost, who knows we may pick up and go charging in to league 1! keep the faith
If we can beat Barnet and Stevenage this week then that would be 7 points from 3 games since the Chesterfield nightmare and things will be looking good again. Like Calzy says, it's a bit doom and gloom at the moment but nothing a couple of decent results can't change. I'm feeling a bit more optimistic than I was yesterday!
