Two things - first is that my programme is designed to reject fifth and further postings BEFORE the actual results are known so you actually cannot enter five identical results to be scored. That is the practical reason. On fairness I am not sure why it would be fairer to eliminate the highest score rather than any other - it seems logical to me to accept the first four and assume fifth etc are simply errors and so don't count whatever score they would have got. I am not sure it really matters what we go with as I expect it is very very rare event. but thanks for the chance to explain
