I'm glad it isn't just me then. Like Charlie, I was thinking that top scoring ought to be reward in itself. I'm pretty sure it's not sour grapes on my part- I've been trying to think how I'd feel if that bonus fell in my lap. For instance, I maintained top of the table for some time mid-season last time out; not sure how many times I topped scored but I suspect I could have got myself further out of sight, and not slipped back to mid table obscurity so easily.

I deserved mid table obscurity because of the dismal run in I had from Feb onwards.

It is too late to bring this up now (is it?) . I'm just relieved to see I wasn't alone in thinking it.

To an extent I agree Leo - in that last year if you found yourself even 80 points adrift of the leadership you would have thought it very difficult to bridge that gap. I think that even with this system that 35 + rounds will even things out in the end. What I'm not so keen on is the 25 point bonus for unique results, which may be leading to late tipping - ie. people waiting till the last minute to see what possible results have not been tipped. What I don't think you can do is change horses in midstream however. One system for the whole year seems the only fair way. Maybe a suggestions thread after the season would be a good idea.

It is worth putting all this into perspective - three different people have gained the 30 points so far - and they are the top 3 - without it though the top two would be the same but Zen would fall a couple of points behind Cologne. Ghost is top because he has had three superb weeks of forecasting 129, 84 and 119 - I am second because I had a great week getting 166 points without the 30 bonus (- I got four scores correct and another 3 correct results - in a week when nobody scored any points from Watford.) and my other two weeks were pretty good too.

Anyone who waits till last to predict in order to put in a prediction that is unique is welcome - we could all do that but personally I do not look at others predictions as it puts me off and to go for an unlikely score just to try to be unique risks getting no points rather than good ones. For example I posted late this week by mistake - I load up so many results during the week that I forget to do my own - as a result my Ipswich Norwich prediction would have been void if I had got it right as I didn't realise the game had already started. :(

Should we take away the double points for Watford too - there is no logic for it really.

I have looked at other prediction leagues where you just get say 10 points for each correct score with nothing for anything else and those make it impossible for half the predictors to move up the table to any extent once you get half way through the season - those boards get significant drop outs in predictions later in the season. Our way means that at any time you can have a good week and gain a lot of points. To balance that though I increased the points scored for draws and other correct results this year to increase the chance of getting decent points each week and to reward more than those who get the correct score.

At the end of the season I will look at the table and deduct the 30 points to see "what would have been". I do not think it will make a great deal of difference as I think most of us have one or two excellent weeks (unfortunately I think I have already had mine).

In the meantime this has produced a good debate with lots more ideas and we have to remember it is just for fun.

I always post late cos I nearly always forget about it, never look at what anyone else puts.

I'm really not complaining, just wondering aloud.

Don't worry - I am not taking any of this as a complaint but as a good chance to see what we do and don't like. I have to confess that perhaps I threw in the added best of the week bonus to make my spreadsheet more complicated and prove to myself I have not lost it since I retired.....:emoticon-0111-blush

Hi Leo

I'm really sorry if I've caused you any problems, it really was only an enquiry into how the points were made up and I didn't know about the 30 points but I will give it ago and try to gain them myself. I think I have predicted the highest score once in three years so won't be holding my breath. Before you put the last three scores in your last posting I had looked back myself, one thing became obvious and to even out the league can we introduce a new rule???

Ghost is only allowed to post predictions every other week. :emoticon-0136-giggl

Once again thanks Leo for running the league. We really do appreciate it. <cheers>

A better points system would be 10 pts for having a username after a player. 20 points for any double letters. Then minus 50 for any spaces.

Then I might get out of the relegation zone...

I already do that Ross - but then I deduct 500 points for any non current player :)

Here is an updated league table - going out soon so no time to "tidy up" its appearance - will try to do that tomorrow.

Well done to top scoring yellotoyou making up for not posting last week and leaping up the table. There are a lot of points up for grabs each week now so a good week can really put everyone into contention. Still out in front is Buster - well done again.

Sack the manager. He's useless. Mind you, if Abdi hadn't scored that late goal we'd have been moving well up the table.

For fun NZ I put the scores in my spreadsheet about 20 minutes before the end and at that time you were TOP !! - you just need to get your team to play the full 90 minutes and not concede late goals :)

yorkshire is starting his slow climb... every season it's like this... the system i use is based on form and it seems to take a few games for the league to settle... i think the last two times i have won it has been the same....

You have a system !!! <yikes> My pin only works some weeks

Wow I scored over 100 points - never done that before - now just got to remember how to do it again emmmmmmmmmmmmm - oh well it was nice while it lasted..

Well sort of congratulations to Bragantino - he was the only one who forecast a Watford defeat - and he even got the scoreline correct - and reaped the rewards - well done Brag.

A poor week all round for most of us with not many results going to "form". Only 9 of us even got a single correct score this week - 12 correct scores all together with NZ, Canary Dave and Hornethologist all doing pretty well.

Good to see the islands moving up at last although Ak needs to pull up his socks or whatever Icelanders have instead.. BB and BHD forgot to post but it is really still very close with less than 100 points separating 6th from 28th places.

If anyone can tell me how to align a table here better I will try not to make it look so much like a slalom course
