No alternative really - unfortunately, I can't think of any outstanding candidates who are currently available. ITV are saying Gareth Southgate is the favourite, which is pretty uninspiring.

If no-one suitable is available, I'd suggest he take it on a temporary basis. We wouldn't get him, but I think England could find success playing a Jurgen Klopp style of high-intensity 'heavy metal' football.

Right, I'm off to watch Wimbledon. :)

He left players on the pitch and ran off like a rat and then turned up with a pre written resignation speech, Rooney had to walk around telling the players to stiffen up, Hodgson is a coward..

We need someone under the age of 70
Klinsmann is a good call,
And YES we need to replace the old twats in the FA. The whole system needs to be shaken down and replaced with youth and energy

But what we really need is another Gascoigne, a truly world class player, a player who can make a difference
Delli Ali is NOT that player, he is just a poser

Eddie Howe would probably be a good shout now.

Able to communicate with young players and use modern methods. football has moved on.

No more dinosaurs.!!!

It was quite clear that was a pre-written script he was reading from. He will no doubt receive a generous loyalty bonus for leaving with grace and not doing what he should done and said;

"This countries football is a shambles, the old boys upstairs are money whores without the foggiest of how to run this game. I feel sorry for the nations fans but this is as good as it gets for the country for the foreseeable future. Tonight you saw all we are capable of and my hand was forced to pick this squad as part of a badly drawn up mandate and the majority of them failed with gusto because many of them are interested in their own pockets rather than playing with any pride like our opponents did tonight. I apologise to everyone but along this journey as head coach I've lost respect for myself as I've realised I'm part of the problem when it quickly became apparent nothing will change now I'm at the helm but I continued to suck that money tit regardless. However my resignation now, my retirement from a game I once loved and refusal to accept quite blatant bribery money from my employers to say something vastly different to what I'm telling you hopefully makes a very small gesture of amends for the dross and outright con I've subjected the fans of England football team to go through. Thank you for listening."

There's been no pride nor player worthy of wearing an England in decades. Alan Shearer is the last I can recall and he quite rightly retired from international football long before his career ended as he most likely saw all this coming.
