Prettyjohns there is a blast from the past Sensible. I used to travel to away games occasionally with a lad called Prettyjohn, better to have as a friend than not, and adding alcohol was done at your own risk!!!! Must be from the same family although to be honest I didnt know it was a surname I thought they called him Pretty John, possibly sarcastically although why anyone would risk rubbing him up the wrong way was beyond me. Makes more sense now I know it was his actual name
You can say that from the safety of the distance mexi. The one most know in Plymouth was Robbie who ran the nightclub bouncers aka doormen. Not somebody to cross that's for sure. He is the Plymouth branch of the Prettyjohns clan and is a second cousin to my Mrs. I don't know of any others but there must be some about. They are all a bit mad. Me and her indoors went out one evening in Dartmouth with one of her brothers and his girlfriend. Some Yachty bloke in a blazer and silly hat swore in the pub so the B-in-law just lamped him one for swearing in front of his sister. The thump was followed by the statement "don't F....... swear in front of my sister you ponce". When the bloke and his party left rapidly I said to him that he just swore. Answer was "yep but she's my sister not his". It was never dull but it was quite safe. The Dartmouth bunch are the pacifists.
Think that was the one he must be in his 50/60s now if it was him. To be fair he was sound as pound with me a little 17 year old on his first away days but I was never sure if it was safer to be next to him or as far away as possible. They used to run a double-decker coach from Whitleigh Green to away games, slabs of beer in the aisles, never a dull moment to be sure. There were a fair few ´beauts´ on there but Prettyjohn was in a class of his own. Still I could get into the clubs for free and had a friendly eye watching out for me so he gets a from me.
He's in his 60's but he "knows people". I still wouldn't have a pop even if I was 17 again and he was still in his 60's. Would you believe that he became a pidgeon fancier and used to race them. He won 30 grand in a global competition once for his bird coming 3rd. Got offered 50 grand for the bird from an Arab Sheik. Wouldn't part with his pride and joy though. I would have and cooked it for him as well.
