The problem they will always have is that because they left the kids alone people can say absolutely anything they like and they'll never be able to disprove it because, regardless of what actually happeend to the poor girl, most people are naturally suspicious because of their initial actions.
Here are two scenarios, 1: A *****phile took her 2: The McCanns (both Doctors) accidentially gave her an overdose and killed her. They then hid her body and disposed of the evidence before the Portugese police were called (within 1 and a half hours). Three weeks later they used a hire car to move Maddie's body to another more secure location. The friends the McCanns were with on holiday were complicit in this cover up. Which is more likely?

Just rechecked the super strength sleeping tabs. 08:30 Need to buy a new shovel (Spear & Jackson No. 4) but these lazy dagoes don't usually open up till 10ish. 09:15 Gerry off to arrange alibi's for this evening 10:20 Picked up some cheap bed linen from a gypsy market. These people only take cash and are due to move on tomorrow. Our tracks are well covered here. 11:10 Gerry got back and was a bit grumpy. We prayed together and asked God to give us strength for the task ahead 12:15 Had a light lunch: Greek salad and a bottle of rosé. 14:05 Rehearsed plan one last time. Although we can't find any flaws, Gerry is becoming increasingly nervous. 15:10 Found an English-speaking priest to hear our confession. Obviously didn't confess everything. There's no point being stupid. 15:55 Finally picked up that shovel. 16:35 A quick swim in the pool to cool down. 16:55 Gerry becoming nervous again. Tried to keep his mind off it by giving him a soapy titwank, but my scrawny dugs just don't do it for him anymore. He took me roughly from behind instead. 17:15 We both cried in shame in the shower as Gerry's manjuice trickled down the back of my thigh. 17:35 Another quick prayer. 18:00 Administered the tabs and left for restaurant. 18:20 Knocked back a couple glasses of vinho already. Starting to relax. 18:35 Gerry returns from 'checking' on the kids. Gives me the secret signal. All is going to plan. Things look like turning out OK.
What I find incredible is that no-one, as yet, has mentioned the possibility of alien abduction. This would explain the lack of forced entry as Maddie woul have been transported up in a beam of light as if by magic. Everyone knows we are visited on a daily basis by "other beings" and quite honestly why the Fuzz have not considered this is beyond reproach. Dev you used to be in the Filth (albeit a disgraced one) why have the police not considered this? And no flippant banal replies as this is a seious point.
Fair question, Alien abduction is every bit as likely as two Doctors covering up the killing of their own daughter after all. Mulder and Scully should probably have been called in too, another slip up/oversight by the Portugese Coppers.

Yeah, searching for ninety minutes before thinking to call the police - if true - probably sealed her fate. The fact that they're both doctors really shouldn't sway irrational suspicion. They done it. I reckon they done it. I'm telling everyone.
