Why am I mad considering it? Higuan is a proven goalscorer who is 25. He is better than anything we have or have a chance of getting (strikers that is) Modric is a proven premiership player and was one of our best players last year and still only 27. Realistically Real Madrid are one of the few teams that could afford him and we would be more inclined to sell him there than to a domestic rival. Don't get me wrong I want us to keep Bale but if we do miss out on champions league it could be difficult hence a player plus cash deal from a club like Real Madrid could be our best option.
Fair point Spurm. Lets hope Wigan or Newcastle can do us a favour to make sure we don't even have to think about selling Bale!
I'm not thinking about it to be honest. I think he'll stay regardless for at least 1 more season. I get the feeling they are a tight-knit group of youngish players who get on a feel they are building something at Spurs, i think he'll want to give it a chance.
I'm hoping that Bale sees that as well. It seems he does by how he comes across. He appears to have more loyalty than a Berbatov or Modric for example. I guess we will soon find out if we do finish 5th as I guarantee the big teams will start coming in with stupid little bids trying to turn his head.
I've hardly ever seen him have a good game, even Adebayor could keep him out of the team when he was on loan there, I'd rather we got a young player like Damiao, or someone that suits dropping off to the wing and playing on the ball a lot like AVB seems to like.
In this fantasy scenario, how much does the Bale sale leave for wages ?? And how quickly will the said players burn thru it ??
Then again, the papers could be wrong (shock horror) and he's on more than 100k. Can't really know for sure
For Spurs at the moment, wages are the killer (especially with smaller stadium and no CL piggy trough) .
