your humble opinion is utter bollocks. Who exactly has been our midfield engine while Carrick has been playing **** in our side? Whoever it is must be bloody good considering how many titles we've miraculously won in this time.

Some players also matured that year, lets not get carried away.

Carrick at his best has never been good enough to play for england in the first 11 nevermind united, get real

Vidic and Evra played just as big roles in out transformation back into champions, if not more so, that season. Also Ronaldo stopped fannying about and started playing properly, and we got Ruud and his selfishness out the door.

Imo Carrick's arrival was the last piece in the jigsaw, but not the most important piece.

I think you'll find its the usual suspects - Scholes, with Giggs playing in the centre.

No need for abuse, its just an opinion. Interesting that I'm not the only one who thinks he's crap.

Yes, you're one of two. Everyone else appreciates him. I didn't abuse you at all but your opinion is nonsense, it's the type of **** i expect from Liverpool fans. If you honestly, honestly think that for the last six years our cm partnership has been Giggs and Scholes then you are insane. And you should give up your season ticket as you're clearly blind.

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion, even if I disagree with it. You'll excuse me if I don't bother replying to any more of your abusive posts.

I agree that the problem was in the DM area, but imo Carrick was more of a solution to a problem than an outstanding player in his own right. He was the right style of player to give us what he missed, but his biggest influence imo was in freeing up Scholes to play a more attacking role. That was the biggest difference between 06 and 07 - Scholes didn't have to worry as much about getting up and down the pitch and could just go back to opening up defences as he did when Keane was supporting him.

I wouldn't honestly compare Carrick to Makalele in terms of his importance to the team. Like you say, Makalele was Chelsea's most important midfielder whilst he was there, whereas Carrick was not as important as Scholes in our midfield. But then Makalele was an exceptional player whereas Carrick is just a very good player.

Imo Carrick's main strength is that he is one of very few players in the PL who looks comfortable playing as a holding midfielder in a two man midfield. Lucas was **** at Liverpool under Benitez when they played two up front, and Song, Essien, Mikel and even Makalele all needed two CM partners in order to do work effectively. Look at how Tiote's form has suffered now Barton has been replaced with Obertan so he gets less support in the centre and it shows the value of Carrick in our side <ok>
