Yeah I got that mate, and knew you weren't having a pop

For me Australia is obviously an english speaking country. Likes of the Philippines and Malaysia (although colonies) still have another national language

But hopefully the point wasnt lost, in that on one hand we have the argument that NHS staff have problems communicating in English whilst someone like the example I gave failed the English test

Doesn't make sense or add up

Some English people fail the English test man.

Very good point Joe and it does cause frustration in patients. Generally these days getting to see your own doctor is a bygone thing, so we accept you see what ever doctor is available. If you go to the practise and cover is supplied by a temporary doctor, i don't think it is unreasonable to expect a clear ability to speak English, particularly as a professional. You might just get away with poor English if you are just popping along because you have a flu virus, but for more complex matters, the very least a patient should be able to expect is a doctor that is clear in his or her vocal communication.

Not sure if this got an answer, but are there actually any clinical staff in the NHS who cannot speak english ?

I would avoid a fight if possible but problem is you can't walk away quietly. It's often seen as a sign of weakness and leads to violence anyway

Law of averages used to be you go for the nearest and made a bit of noise and it would scare some of the others, you got away and as the word git round less people gave you ****

These days it's all about "me n me back up innit"

A mate of mine used to turn into the worst lary ****er ever when he'd had a drink. He was pretty good at fighting so he was able to handle himself, but the silly **** used to get me dragged into his totally unnecessary spats. I'd be out with him and out of nothing he'd manage to find issue with somebody and try and turn it into a fight.

Remember once at some horrible ****ty chav club, we were outside afterward finishing up drinks and he started on this bloke. As I was trying to pull him off, the bloke's mate was on his phone calling his lads to come down and give us a pasting. I just dragged my mate away and hoped to **** we got out of there before they turned up. He was a proper liability.

He took a proper ****ing beating once and ended up in hospital with a smashed eye socket, broken jaw and broken ribs. It took that kind of beating for him to finally realise that his drinking used to turn him into a ****. Nicest lad you could ever meet when he was sober.

One of my daughters in law is Slovakian. She has a degree and speaks English fluently. She’s also a good person, wife and mother.

Not going to bed on this one mate, I was talking a generalisation on Slovakian people. You have a good egg in your family and I am happy to hear that but like in everywhere there's a fair level of ****e, Romanian's and Slovak's have more than their fair share and when given a golden ticket, they will travel..

Apologies again and all the best you cockney twat..<ok>

I'm guessingnot. If there is, it's ****ed up..

It'll be like fan in his 2 day job.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but I'm pretty sure that it's a pre-requisite that you need to speak English to work in any clinical role in the NHS. So saying that people get frustrated because their doctor doesn't speak English isn't really an excuse imo. And you can't get angry with some floor sweeper if he doesn't speak much English either.

There’s ****e everywhere mate. But it is a form of stereotyping to just dismiss a whole nation of people as thieves, beggars or just lazy ****s. Some are, many ain’t, they’re mostly just trying to find a better life. Something many people aspire to.

Apology Accepted, ya norvern monkee...

It's the lack of patience i think. We all expect them to be fluent.

Just look at our road rage, we have probably the best roads in the world, yet still moan about them.

Try driving in a foreign country, or try speaking ina foreign country, in their language, you'll always look a ****.

The Brits are the worse, they have no patience.

Experience with a lot of people from there mate but you have a gem in your family, that does for me and all the best as always.. <ok>

I think the Brits have just got a hangover from the Empire days, where they expect everybody to speak perfect English and become quite indignant over the smallest of issues. Forget the fact that the Bangladeshi specialist has spent 10 years training in his field, if he can't pronounce 'intestines' in the queen's English, then some people seem to find that good enough reason to kick off about it.

And yeah conversely, take some entitled Brit out to Pakistan or Bangladesh and ask them to speak Urdu or Bengali and they'd ****ing shrivel at the first hurdle.

Problem being, as more countries take to English, our own language is going backwards.

As an asian I have been frustrated by foreigners speaking bad English. Think I spoke about a call centre call to India where the guy wasn't called Derek and I offered to speak in Hindi as I couldn't make a word of what he was saying

However with the NHS situation I think it's media **** stirring and another way to bash foreigners (which fits the climate at the moment imo)

Rather than just saying these pissed up knobs are causing trouble it has to be "frustration at inability to speak English"

As if English skills when pissed are something they can complain about. Deciphering a pissheads complaint is an art
