Is there an actual list of candidates yet for POTY? Is it PFA or football writers you're on about, I haven't really paid that much attention to it. If as is suggested Hazard is the favourite then it shows what a crap season it's been as while he's been good he's hardly been outstandingly excellent. Costa tailed off to be as just above average as I expected and Fabregas took the winter off as always. Kane is the real outstanding (outfield) candidate to win the award as described. Just goes to show, Chelsea can only be dominant when the opposition is ****e, put them up against a decent United or City and they don't hack it.
I thought it had already been decided that Coutinho was going to player of the year. He scored a couple of goals from 20 yards so deserves it.
With Can as young player of the year based on his world class twenty minute performance in a pre season friendly.
They do love talking up their players. At some point I'll dig out the hysterically over excited posts about their summer signings. Balotelli! Moreno! Mantequilla! (or whatever his name is, he's vanished) Lovren! Lallana! Lambert! (not sure where he is, maybe he's with Mantequilla?). I recall having a conversation with a Liverpool fan who was insistent that Torres was the best player in the world after he'd scored a hat trick at Anfield against (wait for it) Hull. Dippers are funny when they're trying to be relevant.
Can How they could still categorise this player as world class is beyond me. He has been put in a back three which were put under pressure even by teams like Swansea. They had massive luck with wins over Southampton and Swansea. If Wenger copies LVG's tactics of putting a player on Can as a weak link, he'll be in trouble.
Harry Kane has got to be POTY for me. 20+ goals in his first full season for a Spurs team that's pretty much mid table. Not to mention dismantling both Chelsea and Arsenal's defences. Hazard is a quality player, but what impact has he really had this year, other than getting a nice EA Sports score? Has he actually scored against the top four challengers other than the odd penalty?
There's a player of the year thread on our board with many picking De Gea as POTY and Kane as YPOTY so there goes your conspiracy theories of us all picking Coutinho.
Try watching football smackrat. Helps form an opinion. Being a City fan though, you're not really here
De Gea hasn't scored against any of the top four either but doesn't stop UIR insisting it's a one horse race Hazard will win it because he's been the most influential and exciting player this season statistically and for any one who actually watches more than match of the day. De Gea has been great but a keeper will always find it hard to win. If Giggs can win it for playing about 6 games, Hazard's a shoe in!!
Kane has been significatly better than Hazard and De Gea os the sole stand out player in the league. You are right though. Its hard for a keeper to win it. Neuer should be the current world poty too. Strange how the best player in the world and in england are both goalkeepers.
How can he be the most exciting player statistically? Do you have the relevant statistics of the number of orgasms people have had watching him? I stand by my view that Kane has had a greater impact than Hazard this season, and been more influential for Spurs than Hazard has been for Chelsea. He's also been statistically as effective based on the statto gods at EA Sports.
All to do with number of successful dribbles, which is probably the easiest was of determining whose been the most exciting to watch. Certainly as good a measure as any. If it was down to number of orgasms, then I concede De Gea would win it based on Matth's and UIR's contributions alone... Kane's had a great season and it's a fair shout, but being the stand out player in a good side is not quite as impressive as being the stand out player for the champions (if that's indeed how it pans out). Or do you change your arguments when it's not a Scholes v Gerrard debate?
The only thing that is strange is that you believe that statement. You can not compare a glorified shot stopper to the genius on display by Messi et all.
Biggest player of the year scandal ever is when David Ginola won the year we won the treble and Roy Keane was essentially the worlds best player. Utterly ****ing ridiculous. That all said, Kane is a worthy winner this year, regardless of who wins what, because he's been stand out very good indeed.
If you say so. I think you'll find a hell of a lot more people would class Messi or Ronaldo as the best player in the world over a goal keeper. So perhaps it shows how little you know about the game. The same person who needed to be educated about what a number 10 was. You sure you're not Matth?
I don't think people would complain if Kane won it, even if they didn't agree with it. He's burst onto the scene and been brilliant.
