My mate from school turned a YTS contract down from the flat fish ****ers. Ended up doing a brickie YTS instead, because Saints or no other club wanted him.
Personally I would turn it down. All depends who I was playing for at that time. I suppose if I were in L2 and Portsmouth were still Prem or Championhip I would have to consider whether to go as part of moving up the football chain.
I am just saying if I was playing for the old Saints, the perennial top flight strugglers or the Championship years I would be doing what I could only have dreamed of before and I would probably turn down any 'big' club that came in for me. After all what could be better than playing for the team you support and earning enough to retire comfortably on.
However can any of us know we would do this? None of us know what we would do if that situation arose because we are never likely to experience having to make that decision. I think I would see Saints as my No1 dream though, above any big big side in the world.
