    Bollocks.

I'd like you to say the same thing when there's a pen next to a 4 year contract with 90k a week wages.

I am absolute ****, but if Newcastle wanted to pay me for playing football, of course I would. Another question is, if you were playing for Sunderland and got an offer to be in the barca first team (full messi wages) would you do it? I don't think I would, any footballers salary is enough tbh, I'd rather play at the sol.

FFS mate it was a flippant jokey reply ! I'm sure most of us would have loved to become pro footballers and as the liklihood of it ever happening is non existent it's not something we'd really have to deal with in reality !

Of course if the opportunity to play for them or us presented itself you'd pick your own club !

I'm not sure i believe people who claim they wouldn't. Of course I'd play for Sunderland and take the money, but more than that i don't feel hatred for the club or fans. I think if i was given a great contract to play in professional football then Sunderland would be my second choice, i could live in Newcastle and just pop down for training and matches. Much preferable to living in London and having to put up with cokcneys all week...

Pretty much everyone on this site would jump at the chance of being a professional footballer, saying you would turn down that opportunity at a big club with big wages is just strange. Something to do with cutting off noses to spite faces.

    Depends.

    Yes:

If Newcastle had poached me as an 8-10yr old I would probably Support them, never mind just play for them.

If I was playing in the lower leagues, had 1 or 2 blinding seasons, and they came in for me, and no one else was interested.

    No:

If I was already a player in the PL playing for a team like Everton/Fulham (Winning something is slim, but very little chance of going down) and they wanted me, I would say No Thanks, but if Sunderland came in, I would jump at the chance.

I do think that if you are a foorball player, your boyhood support doesnt really matter that much, Owen was an Everton fan, made his name with Liverpool and thats just one of many.

Agreed - very balanced view ! Of course most of us would give the proverbial right arm to be a Premiership footballer !
