I think you mis-understand, this is not at all the point I am making. I fully agree that to strenghten many areas of the team is a safe and sensible strategy. And I would also agree with you that Mertesacker, Gervinho and Santos are not acceptable replacements for the pure class of Nasri and Fabregas and represent a giant leap backwards for the gooners. However, in this case, when MA was faced by the choice of replacing the star (and only) striker he took a massive gamble. Going for Ba who was unproven, injury prone and quite frankly a cheap option, does not strike me as being terribly ambitious! The chairman had serious money to invest and chose to leave the strike force over reliant on one man for half of the season. Can we really think that when Tiote is sold his money will be invested to continue pushing towards establishing top six league finished?

I think the point is, in the main we as fans don't really care whether we take 35m for Carroll, yet only spend 15m on improving the squad (hypothetical figures). I don't associate our owners ambition with what money he spends. All we as fans are bothered about is what we see on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon. I don't care if its a load of cheap risky players or a bunch of multi million pound superstars. If Mike takes a tidy profit while we improve, so be it.
