Is Ba a bit of a big personality? I dont think I was ever aware of hearing of anything that suggests that?

Yeah he is according to Pardew. Described him as a leader, and said he'd be a big part of the dressing room when he settles.

Absolutely not, never scored many goals and is at the wrong end of his career.

I'd take him on a season loan deal for wages which reflect his ability and age.

Decent player with some good experience.

No................why do supporters forget he NEVER sparkled when playing with the best No9 we've all seen in at the TOON.............

Any tosser who said he would leave if we signed Rooney is a gob- sh**e....................he flatters to deceive because of his pace................

ManCity guessed this a bit too late 2 seasons ago............

I agree I don't think we should go for him as he's past his best now...

...but "NEVER sparkled"?? Totally disagree - he was a major part of our revivial under Robson, I honestly don't think we'd have been the same team without his pace and work rate up front. Totally unsettled defenders, nothing was a lost cause, and he provided other players like Robert Dyer and shearer with space.

Was a great player and i didnt really mind his attitude, even though he was apparently a bit of a tw@t on the pitch, he gave it everything. I'll NEVER forget that goal against Feyenoord.
I dont think resigning him his a move the club should be making though. Its not the same as resigning Charles N'Zogbia, whos still young and has improved since leaving. In my eyes Bellamy hasnt, mostly due to age and niggling injuries catching up with him.
He hardly ran away with the championship last season.

The only times i would step away from the clubs philosophy in signing young players with a big potential, is if we signed someone along the lines of Berbatov or Anelka. Thats the only time i think we'd possibly go beyond the age limit, but only on short contracts of say 2 years with a possible +1 at the most. Whether or not these players would do that or go aborad for an easier time and longer last contract is another question though. But im getting at experianced players who have proven to be consistent goalscorers, even at their age, yet are not necessarily wanted at their current club and are already being replaced.

The club keeps going on about this five year plan, finishing in the top 10 now but trying to get into Europe. I see no problem in signing some experianced older striker, prepared to work, that you could rely on to get you goals when you need them. Especially on shorter contracts, since the signings you can make now to the signings you can make when you have European football are FAR different.

I dont think Bellamy has anything more to offer a club going in that direction though.

    NOOOOOOOOOO!

Gobby little up-start that never sparkled when playing with Shearer....................anyone who says he would leave if we signed Rooney clearly loves himself more than the TOON.

Man City weren't too impressed either.................told to report back for training the day after their first team left for USA pre-season games!!!!!

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke

Good post.......agree with proven goal scorers at very highest level on very short contracts ( issue is some mug team wants to give them all 5 year deals ..ala Nolan)..........Berbatov...............mmmmmmmmmmm...............what about Van Nistelrooy for a year????????????

What do you mean "NOOOO"? Why do you say he didn't sparkle? Cos he didn't score goals? There's far more to his game than goals.

If you don't like his personality then fair enough, I won't argue with that. But anyone who argues against his effectiveness on the pitch during his stint with the toon is an idiot. I think you've let his personality cloud your judgement of his performances.

Along the lies of Van Nistelrooy yeah, even though he's been away from the premier league for a while. I just didn't mention him as he's only just signed for Malaga hasn't he?
I just think it would be better to get a proven one now to take us to the next stage and then get a young, talented (better quality) forward when we have the lure of European football on a long contract. Rather than possibly get 2-3 average/decent strikers now on long contracts and stick with them.

    No defo not for me.

I think he was a cracking player while he was here. I know many struggle with his abrasive nature, and lets face it, the bloke is an absolute tool. All said and done though a big part of it has to come down to what you can delvier out on the big green rectangle. He did for us and was a menace and excellent player to have. I'm sure Shearer would admit to although hating him, he loved having him alongside. By all accounts in his later years his earlier misplaced aggression has now been channelled (like Barton) into becoming a top trainer, expecting the best from everyone.

The big problem is the same with Hargreaves, Joe Cole, and just about any other daft player we've been linked with, fitness and injuries. His knee is knackered. We've taken enough risks on that front now (Ba - knee, Gosling, Marveaux - Groin). Throw in Ben Arfa and we need to protect ourselves against becoming a disaster waiting to happen. I think you must also consider he isn't as quick as what he was, and his pace was his main asset. That's without even discussing wages. Man City are happy to let him rot rather than (as he wants) that they pay up his contract in full (something to do with him needing it for his soccer school in Sierra Leone supposedly). Wrong age for our policy too. All round it will never happen and to be fair to the board, it shouldn't.

His game wasn't just about goals though, that's the point - look at everyone elses opinion on here - you're the only one saying he wasn't a great player for us. Again you are focusing on his attitude (texts etc).
