Of course it's true there are lots of plastic Man U Chelsea and liverpool fans in hull like there is in any city or town but to suggest they filled the stadium last season is way off the mark. Firstly our ground was over 90 % full for every match and the attendances for the cheaper games ie Stoke and palace were virtual sell outs and let's not forget the Man city match had a very poor gate due almost entirely to the £50 tickets .
I didn't write that. I said the only way we would fill a 35,000 stadium is bynthere being a load of plastics from Hull and the East Riding being there. There were 6,000 more there for the Man City game than the £16 Burnley one. The ground wasn't 90% full of City fans for other games as every team brought an away following, The fact we have only sold 1,000 tickets so fsr for a Capital Cup quarter final shows we don't have as much support as some seem to think we have. Other clubs with further distances to travel, take far more for this stage of the competition.
please log in to view this image This is when crowds were crowds, PNE v Man U 1972, reminded me of the game on boxing day against Millwall at Fer Park 1965-66.
We're way too cool for that Micky mouse competition aren't we? But really, isn't it that we simply can't afford it?
There wasnt. We would need to have at least 10 years of success, constant PL, for us to contemplate a ground extension. Swansea have a 20000 ground and still havent expanded it and they've been in the PL 5 years now, won a Cup too.
No we wouldnt fill it. We need to shake off the fans that support and go to other Prem teams before its even thought of.
Are you saying everywhere is rolling in money compared to Hull? There are 5 times as many well off people in smaller places like Middlesbrough and Sunderland? (Look at the crowds they have taken to similar games). We had 5,000 going to Newcastle in the early stages of the competition when itbcost more than this game, a lot more in real terms. Was Hull in thr middle if a boom then? Similar when we took 5,000 to Liverpool after being stuffed in the first leg. A lot of people who, went then don't seem interested now.Wonder why thatbis?
My apologies, Chazz. Just looked it up. Where that came from is a mystery. Rather a 25,000 ground with 5,000 or so wanting tickets than a 35,000 one with 5,000, 10,000 or 15,000 empty seats. Though, the way the OP puts it the only question is whether "we" should expand it. Who is "we" in this respect exactly? The owners of the club aren't going to. The owners of the ground aren't going to. So who is the "we" that should consider expanding it?
I hate to let facts spoil an argument but actually City's highest attendance was against Burnley so if there was 6,000 more in the ground for the man city game we must have already expanded the stadium only I must have missed it Secondly our average last season was 23,557 which equates to 92.73% of capacity . Of course that includes away fans no team counts their gates based only on home support Statistics you just got to love em
So, that is 1,500 unoccupied seats on average. I know segregation issues in a poorly designed stadium means we can't sell them all if away teams don't sell all theirvallocation as it isn't possible to be flexible but it is scant evidence for claims could fill a 35,000 stadium.
Only sold 1,000 tickets? We've sold that many on Tiger Travel alone, we must have sold at least double that many and they only went on general sale today.
Thought someone put we had only sold 1,000? We are entitled to over 7,000 tickets, aren't we? Some clubs have taken that many. Not that I expect us to nowadays.
Dont go getting your knickers in a twist over it, plenty of other, way more successful clubs take less than their entitlement. Some even take less than us. I know. Incredible.
I didn't say it was evidence to support the claim we could fill a 35,000 seater stadium it was simply refuting what you had said which you did to support your claim we couldn't fill a stadium with that capacity. That we had a ground which on average was over 92 % full even in a season when we were relegated would suggest a more successful club ie one that became an established premier league team could draw bigger gates than than the stadium at present can hold It's a pity so many of our fans seem so limited in their vision of what we could become. We will never be a Man U , Liverpool etc but a cursory knowledge of our history would indicate we have the potential to be bigger than a club with a 25,000 seater stadium
