..the difference between Head of Recruitment and Head of Scouting, because I understand that today, ex left back Tony Spearing has been appointed in the first capacity to work under, or perhaps alongside, Lee Darnbrough, currently working in the second capacity. Seems rather a fine distinction to make, and one would imagine that their working fields would overlap somewhat, but good to see another old boy returning home.

It was only a suggestion RBF, I've no idea really, as you say, a rose by any other name!

:) - all may become apparent, Dave, or then again perhaps it won´t, but I do seem to remember Spearing as being rather a jolly left back from yesteryear, even if he wasn´t blessed with any extreme talent.

Crikey.

I'd have just thought recruitment was staff related, scouting player related.

What do I know (other than I could do both jobs for a lesser fee)

I guess it depends how active a role the "Head of Scouting" takes in scouting. If he's taking reports from other scouts, and deciding who to personally follow up, and covering senior as well as youth prospects (the latter admittedly I thought was Neyul's job), then that could be fairly full on.

A player needs to buy into more than just the manager's vision (he might be sacked in 6 months anyway!), and recruitment might extend to finding players a house, a school for their children. Problems the football side of the business might not want to handle. Why you'd recruit an ex-player for that, I'm not entirely sure?

SPEARING was THE worst player I ever saw put on the hallowed yellow shirt. I watched him skinned week after week - even by the bone idle Kevin Sheedy! When I moved to Leicester I apologised to every Leicester fan that we took money off them for him. He not surprisingly became a laughingstock in their fanzine very quickly! Hope he is not talent spotting in any capacity because .......!
