<ok> I'm with you on the praise of Ba's defensive effort and all round work rate in the last few games, and yep we were all starting to quake a bit at the start during Ramadan but our patience is certainly paying off.
I do also agree that Carroll is very misunderstood in terms of how he plays. There were moments with us where, with the ball at his feet, he showed the player he could become and while he has a solid header on him it's true that there is more to his game.

I'm sure every one of us hopes Carroll will not end up better than Ba - for our own teams sake - but with Ba's work rate on the increase (something Pardew has been able to grind out from every single player in our team), the sort of goal scoring ratio he is on now (8 goals in 9 games) expected to be maintained (considering what we've all seen of him at a struggling West Ham) and his natural awareness and positioning added on to that too I just can't see Carroll being able to match Demba's game any time soon - and certainly I dont think he is doing so right now. Apologies for the ridiculous overuse of brackets in that sentence!

This feels rather odd disagreeing with you on something; since so often do I find myself agreeing with you it's making me feel like I must be entirely wrong here! I'm quite happy in my opinion on this matter though haha.

I think that had we kept Carroll and still signed the others, we would be even better. As he is better than Best and he is a different option, he is a complete powerhouse. Him and Ba would be awesome up top. However the likelihood would have been that we wouldn't have signed others and the team would be similar to last season. In which case, we wouldn't be doing better.

Also, I think Carroll is a fantastic footballer and so much more than just a target man. Would love to see him develop into the playyer he can be.

Ah fair enough, I didn't see the 'Question for Geordies' bit in his OP and was just going on the thread title. Still, would be interesting to hear your lads' input - a few of you have contributed already anyway <ok>.

We would be mid table at best with Carroll. Ba is far more mobile.
