Would it be wrong to say Lewis was "nowhere" until test-gate?

Test-gate helped yes but he had decent results before that. 5th in Australia, 3rd in Malaysia, 3rd in China and 5th in Bahrain. The car was bad on it's tyres and improved race after race plus he struggled to find ways of looking after them. The test in Barcelona helped them but i wouldn't say dramatically, credit has to go to the team for constantly improving the car.

As much as you bitch about the guy, you really really love to talk about Hamilton! :)

Come on, admit it, you love him!

i like....trying to balance discussions about him, the forums practically dead, but there's still too many Hammy-huggers, you need to balance it out otherwise it gets boring, especially for those who don't particularly like him. There are plenty of people who boo and hiss everytime Vettel wins or gets in the lead, seriously why are people not allowed to do the same to Hamilton?

It was clearly the test. The car "miraculously" learns how to handle the tyres. Well i don't believe in miracles.

One thing everybody seems to be forgetting... Mercedes has brought in enough technical bigwigs to start three F1 racing teams. I don't think you have been giving them enough credit. These men are brain men and heavy rollers who earn massive salaries, and I would be surprised if they couldn't solve that tyre problem. I don't think Mercedes would be paying out those big bucks if they didn't think they could get to the bottom of that problem quickly. While the illegal test might or might not have helped I think those big wigs would have burst their backsides trying to fix that problem. Just my opinion.

You know what i fond strange? Lewis would react to a question from the press and everyone jumps on his back but then Kimi would say something even worse and people love him for that... I dont get it. I love Kimi for being straightforward and the public loves him for it too, but if Lewis comes out and say something straight-up people get hot under the collar and start to criticize him... that's strange!

Yes, that's interesting, dhel. I suppose all opinions and perceptions are based on preconceptions, aren't they? And although the public get their feeling about 'public' figures from necessarily removed sources, any and all preconceptions, however gained, will colour one's perception.

I don't mean to make a faux pas here but this is the basis of all prejudice. You've hit upon an interesting facet of human nature!

I think Mercedes have improved a bit, I think Hamilton has bedded into the team, but, personally, I don't think the form they've shown in MOST of the last few races are just quirks of the tracks, I think they may start at the front in Spa, but neither will appear on the podium, Pouhon is going to show Mercedes their problems aren't behind them.

sorry, but i wouldn't really call that "strange", i mean Hamiltons conduct on the track was so bad at one point many were pondering whether he should have his super license taken away, until he learnt how to race without hitting people, kind of like Grosjean was in recent years.

I think he's been absurdly fortunate that many have turned a complete blind eyed to literally all of that stuff on and off the track and just focus on anything positive about him, as well as deciding he deserves to win like a gazillion driver championships.

My entire problem with him is he chooses to be like that, and if you look around the paddock at all the other drivers you can see that it's completely unnecessary behavior, be it on or off the track, he's brought this "prejudice" on himself.

Depends what you 'choose' to see in him or other drivers. It's easy to 'choose' what you want to see or not see depending on what your agenda is.

Anyway, well done for finally bringing the thread around to what you wanted it to be in the first place.......

Should we just cut out the middle man and have a general "Rambling about Hamilton" thread stickied at the top of the board? I personally don't care much about how he wears his hat or what his current favourite ear ring is but its obviously a hot topic these days.

Maybe I'm missing the whole point and Hamiltons upturn in form isn't the car allowing him to drive better, its not even him settling in, its purely down to his PR team pulling a fast one on us all, well played <ok>

We could call the thread "Not606 does heat magazine" so we could bring Vettel in when he wins/crashes :D

The thread is about Lewis/Mercedes performance, not whether you like him or not as an individual.
