A fellow now known to me and 2RJ jnr as "Mr Derby" was particularly frustrated and went through the full range of industrial language. Then some old boys told him off in headmasterly fashion so they got some. Mr Derby was then exited I think. To be fair his passion was to be admired, more so that the 11 we had out that day, who had worked out the Italians were coming and they really were not bothered. Strangely I have no problem with the 5 best wins, but forgettable defeats are just so. To pick posters brains I also have memories of that Derby shambles Northwich, Barnsley and Huddersfield.
This wasn't a defeat but I was reminded of our match against Bury at home in 1978. We were 3-0 up and eventually drew 3-3. I left that game with a real sense of futility. Losing 5-0 at Portsmouth in about 1971 is not a happy memory.
