Thelwell was quick, he wasn't one for the future though, he went straight into the team as a regular (debut goal against Darlo or was that the next season?). Pretty sure his press conference was a normal one, maybe a comment about him being over his injury problems that proved to be laughable but nothing odd about it at the time. Joseph was signed as a centreback, I think he only went to right back when Alton Thelwell got injured (so most times) and Hinds wasn't available. I'm sure it's Regan or Angus that had the comment about recovering from mistakes made by the club when they announced their signing.
I recall Nicky Mohan being rather 5hite too. Not during his loan period from Middlesbrough when he was younger, but when Brian Little signed him towards the end of his career. He'd lost his pace, and any ability to tackle or pass the football properly. What a stinker!
I am a realatively young fan but the Gardner thing is simply because he was responsible for such a sheer quantity of goals. People will think I'm exaggerating but seriously, go back and watch some of our goals from 2009/10. He gifted strikers so many goals with his 'marking', particularly when the ball was in the air. When you have a 6'5" ex-England defender who isn't even that old, you expect him to win the majority of his headers and to add something to your defence, not single-handedly dismantle it every week! Also the fact that we kept playing him every single week while Mouyokolo was sat in the stands was probably what pissed me off. A lot of these players mentioned hardly played any games for us but Gardner spent a whole year gifting goals. Facey is an interesting one. He was injured for ages and eventually got fit and looked good in his first game, but what happened to him after that?
Facey is still playing in the lower leagues, he wasn't that bad, no where near some other donkeys we have had over the years. I see Bamber being mentioned a lot, the Stan Ternent era was one of the worst periods in our history for money being spent on crap players like him, Finnegan and Gwyn Thomas.
A lot depends on what you call crap. Hull City fans kind of have a thing about strikers, we're always very quick to have a go at strikers if they don't score in a couple of games but defenders get a lot more time to impress. Most of the players mentined on here are strikers or wingers. Personally I think a a defender making big mistakes is worse than an attacker not scoring.
Well my nomination was Neil Buckley for worst player so would have to agree with you there Premier! He was probably a bit before your time but he was the original Sonko, he wasn't helped by playing with Jobson though who made him look like a carthorse in comparison.
Not for me - I said Tony Brien was the worst I have ever seen and I can't believe nobody else nominated him (unless I missed it). Did you see him play? He was unbelievable, and not in a good way.
Brien wasn't that bad compared to some of that era's dross, Raise you a Brien with a Chris bettney? Useless c**t of a forward with an impressive strike rate of 1 goal in 30 but at least that solitary strike was an important one .... in a 5-1 hammering at Torquay !
