Not really one for this list but it gets you thinking of obscure former players - whatever happened to the likes of Les Thompson, who was always willing to pass on his comp tickets to skint young travelling fans, and Mark Calvert?
Les Thompson ended up playing at Burnley, but he'd dropped to non-league by the time he was 26, Calvert had a couple of seasons at Scarborough, but I've no idea what happened to him after that.
I guess you're on about me with Anthony Gardner. As you say, I was blessed not to see most of the players you mention. I only started watching in about 1999 and I wasn't very good at forming my own opinions for a few years after (I was only 5 when I started going) so it's around the time of the Div. 3 promotion season by the time I fully understood the game. Since then we had loads of players like Stev Angus who hardly played and were therefore probably quite ****, but my thing about Gardner was that he played almost every game for the whole of 2009-2010 and was consuistently gash throughout. We had Mouyokolo left out in the cold for over half of the season and yet Gardner nearly always played. I'm convinced if anyone who doesn't agree with me took the time to watch some kind of highlight reel from that season, you'd see he was directly at fault for at least one goal nearly every game and I'm sure you'd see what I mean. I remember throughout that season every week I would go home saying "I can't believe Gardner cost us a goal by [insert mistake here] again!
Hately's team has to be the worst we have ever had ! What did we get in his first season, 40 points ? We only survived because Doncaster were worse than us !
At a Dunfermline game a few years ago I saw the central midfielder had S M Thompson on the back of his shirt and thought it was odd as he was the only Thompson in the squad on the back of the programme. I asked someone what it was all about and they told me that it was because the goalkeeper coach was still registered as a player and he was also called Scott Thompson. Yes, that keeper you remember went on to become a goalkeeper coach, and played a part in Dorus De Vries becoming the keeper he is today.
Plenty of ****e players have made great coaches. Mourinho never played professionally and was just the translator at Barca.
Matt Hocking arrived from Sheff u with a decent reputation. I remember when he was dropped one day he got his agent to slap in a transfer request
Neil was a trier - far from our worst player He wash gash but a better player than some of the older league 2 players i remember - plus his missus was a looker Ekra never even played for us - he was a kid. At least Jevons scored a few goals for us. bolder scored a belter vs Luton away I think. bradshaw had the talent but lacked dedication. Coles could have been decent but had a bad start and lost the crowd early on - none of which are anywhere near our top 10 Quite possibly, not alas - not our worst Da'ily' Mail - the latter day David Luiz - I liked him - came from blackburn with a decent rep - did ok. Nowhere near our worst Wood - pants Smith - played 400 odd games for Crewe - came with a rep but diappointed Webb - useless but not our worst Duffy - a 6" header away from a debut goal vs WBA. I think he had something but again failed to score early and our fickle fans failed to support him Calvert was a poor mans Cairney - nice on the ball but little physically McP - Came here on a huge fee at the time - never did it but scored a few - not in the top 50 worst Jenks - someone taking the piss here De Mange - did ok - came here from Liverpool via Leeds Young - came with an Arsenal pedigree - lacked pace - had great touch The answer to the question has been posted already. Drumroll............................ David Jones or John Moore I'm plumping for Moore - I saw him get sent off in the ressies once
I bounce Walton up the list, because not only was he ****e for us, but he crocked the most talented player City have ever had on their books. That's got be worth some bonus points? And a kick in the bollocks.
Jenkinson was awfull. Coventry only bought him because he did well in that 'fastest footballer thing' - those races. Not sure anybody will remember that. He got in the final. That's a story by David Mail by the way.
I remember. It was a leage cup comp thing were every team submitted their fastest player and through a series of heats we had the fastest 10 line-up at Wembley as pre match / half time entertainment for the cup final in which Shuffle featured. The end result established the fastest player in the league who I recall as being John Williams, coincidentally also signed by Cov. They were clearly planning a swift counter attacking game in those days.
He would have done, given the chance. Check out this great strike....
Jenks came last in that race He still had the shuffle It beat EVERY man - surely a winner - question your input into any Hull City thread if you are posting jenks as the worst ever player Hang your head in shame (do you not remember Beresford - similar position - no shuffle and no rumbelows final placing)
