I think he's still at Sainsburys, not seen him for awhile though. My worst players : David Jones, Scott Maxfield, Kenny Gilbert, Nicky Mohan, Stuart Young, Mark Calvert, Ian Mcparland, Ken De mange, Lee Jenkinson (He did that trick of his and nothing else !), Ben Petty
Aaaargh! I can't remember his name but the lad we got from Rotherham or Sheff Utd who was going to be our new 20 goal a season forward, he left (thank God!) and went to Sheff Utd or Rotherham (where he did then score goals). He was credited with 1 goal only, I think a fierce shot from the right by Ken De Mange probably headed for the half-way line that hit this lad and went in. John Moore?
David Mail wasn't that bad despite his penchant for chesting the ball down at every opportunity, definitely not one of our worst
Neil Buckley looked like sunday league.I honestly believe his dad must have been loaded and bought him a place in the team. As for some peoples choices on here, the thread was:Worst player in last twenty years: not the worst signing,so the likes of Jimmy Bullard don't really come into it !
Some people's choices might have come from the other thread. I moved a lot of posts from the Palace match thread.
for some reason all i can think is Steve Melton i may be wrong and have him mixed up with someone else tho!
yeah but other then that to my memory wasnt he shockingly ****!?!? and ****ing taylors daughter or something? i may be well off the mark here tho! lol
Green was the one with Taylor's daughter. Steve Melton was the one described when we signed him as a goal scoring midfielder who'd get box to box. I think on top of the "one for the future" players, and the "he works hard but" players you've got to add in to it a player who at the press conference announcing his signing was described as "having plenty of pace to recover when he makes a mistake". I can't remember who it was, but it was a right back, Regan or Angus spring to mind.
I knew it was one of the players around that time lol i liked green he was always who i put money on for first goalscorer
Could it be Alton Thelwell? He was pretty quick, and was signed as one for the future! Wasn't Angus only ever with us for a couple of games on loan?
Nadgers - did a bit of googling and narrowed it down to a 3-2 defeat to Macclesfield. The video seems to have been taken down though, can anyone help? http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/201...ns-with-macclesfield-to-sink-tigers/#comments
Always a tricky one - Bullard is clearly our worst signing but would never be the worst player. Matt Wicks is the most hateful after blatantly admitting he just didnt care or try but in terms of ability as a footballer I'd always include: Steve Hawes Tony Finnegan. John French David Jones "6ft 2, eyes are blue, David Jones is after you" Christian Sansom Some big bloke Dolan got in on loan - Robbie Turner? Oo, that made me think of John Pearson too. That goalie Hately signed from Jockoland - Scott something? Gregor Rioch. Andy Mason. But pride of place has to go to ......Tony Brien. Even the name makes me shudder. Christ Almighty that's a list and frankly anyone naming a player who played in the Premier League as the worst they have seen is stunningly blessed.
At last some sane answers. I never know how people put players from the past 6 years on this list, when you get to compare it with that lot! Robbie Turner was the forward on loan from Cambridge, he was so bad that Cambridge allowed him to play against them (probably insisted on it!) The goal-keeper is Scott Thompson, but I feel that Bonsai Bracey was worse. I think Greg Rioch is very harsh - I used to like him. Hawes also, as when we were really in trouble (going 10 points adrift), he was the only one who seemed to care Two names missing so far - Craig Lawford and Mark Hateley. I also remember Bob Dewhurst being utterly dreadful by the end of his time with us. Utterly overweight and very slow
Scott Thompson - that's the one! I remember his debut in Hately's first game in charge at Mansfield when thousands of excited City fans packed out Field Mill with promotion merely a matter of time, yet slowly over the course of 90 minutes you could visibly see it dawning on faces that something was very very wrong indeed. We didnt even manage a shot OFF target that game, never mind on. And yeah, after I put it I thought Rioch was harsh and I concede he doesnt belong on that list, it was probably just that he was captain of our worst team ever. But I stand by Hawes! I also recall a game at Hartlepool when John French's parents were sat in the away end with us and had to leave after hearing the stick he got. Not nice to witness but he was Godawful at football.
