    Bit of a generalisation there pal - finest beaches in Britain, best mountains, cleanest lochs - admit there are some dung-heaps in the cities and some of the outlying towns though

    I had the severe misfortune of being brought up in BanglaChesh and could not agree with you more. Some people have fine memories of their childhood homes, I utterly detest that town. Fortunately, I never have reason to return.

    There's quite a lot up North but the ones above have absolutely nothing to commend them. As has been commented on, Yorkshire folk are proud of their birthplace - however I've never met anyone who proudly proclaims that they come from one of the above.
