    I am sorry - I promise I won’t do it again.

I went to school with him and we played on the same team there so I hoped he would do well. I did contact him afterwards and told him he had not just let himself down but let the whole school down.

And yet, after 12 games we have a goal difference of -7 and 15 points, whereas, last season it was -6 and 9 points.
If December goes as well as many of us believe it will, with a much easier 6 games than the first 12, almost a full first team squad, and some long, long awaited goals from one or two up front, then there will be no comparison.
Of course we might lose all six as well as the 2 this month :)
I've always been very optimistic about this season, and I'm delighted with the way it is slowly shaping up.
On another note, it's always a pleasure to read your posts Jakarta, some have made me laugh out loud.

I only really started supporting the boys back in 96 but since then I think Souness and Allerdyce pre Ashley and then pretty much everyone bar Hughton and Rafa has been a car crash since Ashley came in. Pardew nutting players, Jokiner - ramblings of a mad man, John "The best coach in the world" Carver, the wally with a brolly, even Shearer had a dismal record and while it would have been a fairytale had he kept us up was probably the wrong appointment at the time.

Shearer was never suitable as a manager in my opinion. As much as he's probably most people's favourite ever player, he does come across as a tad ****ish most of the time.

I'd say it has to be Sounness. Dalglish shouldn't be in contention for me. Many of the players were looking to jump ship when he came in (the club had been clinging on to Ginola by their fingernails for a little while), Keegan gave no consideration to long term goals and alongside the players you mention in the OP he also signed Hamann, Given, Speed and Solano (iirc) - in the short time he was with us I think that's not bad. PLUS we finished 2nd in the season he first came in, that season could have gone horribly but we kept it together.

On reflection, has to be Benitez. Raised expectations far too high, became bigger and more important than the club itself, played some of the worst football I've ever seen from any PL club in history and moaned openly, incessantly, about the poor squad he had.

Only a Toon fan could base a view on best/worst manager on raised expectations. <doh>

Not just that. I'm also basing it on Joselu, Muto, Gayle, Murphy, Hanley and Almiron. I'm not sure any manager in Toon history has a worse signings record than Rafa.
