Yes I guess it is rather appropriate in that regard! The Italian anthem has quite an intro as well, I enjoy them both to be honest. Far more rousing than God Save the Queen in my opinion.
 
Didier Drogba and Emmanual Eboue broke the Turkish FA's rules about players displaying political slogans at matches when revealing shirts in tribute to Nelson Mandela after Galatasaray's game at the weekend - which is a case of following the letter of the law instead of using common sense.

Although - shock, horror! - Twitter had an opinion about the situation...

You know more about the German national anthem than I do, but I do know it's not Deutschland über alles any more. I just like to call it that. I like to call it that because I've got an even more ambivalent relationship with Germany than I do with Judaism. My Jewish father was a lifelong Germanophile, which resulted in me speaking German fairly well and being a Germanophile myself. But there is an other hand. Something about a people who not so long ago killed six million good citizens for fear that people like me (half Jews by ancestry) would continue to be born. They should have dumped the anthem, not just changed the name. Doesn't stop it from being a lively song. As is the Horst Wessel Lied.

Our good national song is "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." "God Bless America" should be taken out and shot for its title, but rousing it certainly is.
 
Keep an eye out for Michy Batshuayi, young Standard Liege striker.

Jonathan Tah of Hamburg too looks like he could become a solid CB, only 17 and already 6ft+.
