Thinking back what’s your thoughts on tournaments England could/should have won.

I’m going with 1958 in Sweden
Cold European country
Excellent England form going into it beating most of the Semi finalist, finalists and winners.
Munich air crash stopped all that.

We had the launch of Pele

Due to the Munich crash I would put it under could have. unfortunately we never got the chance. Still remember watching it as a, just, 8 year old.
Think the 1970 one was a lost opportunity. Thought our squad overall was better than the 1966 one.

1986, the hand of God, TBH, Maradona’s 2nd was one of the best goals I’ve ever seen, hate to say it, but he was a brilliant player.
1990, should have beaten Germany, penalties are Englands downfall.
Anything with the “golden generation”, Eriksson & Capello failed miserably with those players. I hope we never have another foreign coach in charge of England again.
The last Euro’s, penalties AGAIN! FFS :emoticon-0121-angry

I really like Southgate as manager, yes he’s defensive, but his record in competitive games is one of, if not the best by any England manager.
If/when he goes, I think we’ll see just how good we had it with him!

Yet, and it is all about perceptions and statistics only go so far, but Capello had the best win ration of any England manager.

Didn’t get us anywhere!
Southgate’s only lost 1 game in 90 minutes in Euro’s & WC, that was v France in Qatar.
I’d rather have Southgate’s record over Capello’s anytime!
WC ‘94, one of the worst Brazil side’s I’ve ever seen won it, in one of the most boring finals I’ve seen.
What would you rather have, win all the games 3-0 & lose in the quarter finals, or win1-0 & reach the Final & have a chance of winning the tournament?

As I said, you can’t go by statistics, stats are something some on here are obsessed by, as Capello has our highest win ratio. You seem to have missed the point I was making.

Should have won the last Euros and 2004, and 96. 2018 world cup should really have beaten Croatia. Probably have got hammered in the final but who knows
